After a seven minute delay for the net to be mended, the game finally got underway, with Stoke attacking the railway end, and the first action to note, was a corner to Stoke, which was met by Joe O’Loughlin, at the near post and the ball was deflected off a defender just wide of the goal.

Two minutes later, a neat one-two passing movement between Markus Johnson-Schuster & Liam Ferdinand, allowed Markus the chance to shoot, but his shot lacked power, and was at the keeper, allowing him to get his right foot to the ball, and Walton were able to clear.

On twenty minutes, Walton had their first real attack winning a corner on the right, after a shot by the byline, was pushed away by Joel Halliday in goal.
Despite good work play by Stoke, it was Walton who took the lead, as a clearance from our attack found their forward just in our half, and he had time to turn and take the ball thirty yards into our half, before hitting a shot that found the corner of the net. Basingstoke 0-1 Walton & Hersham

Stoke via a decent run by O’Loughlin, won a free-kick on the edge of the penalty, but D’Andre Brown’s kick, although beating the wall, bounced comfortably in front of the Walton keeper, who made the save.

Stoke won another free-kick in a similar area as before, as Robbie Gallagher was brought down, but the free-kick into the penalty area, although deflecting off the Walton defender, was given as a goal-kick.

Walton had another attack, with five minutes to the break, but the ball was forced out for a corner.
A minute of added-time was played, and Walton went into the break having done very little, but found the net when needed.

Halftime Score: Basingstoke Town 0 vs 1 Walton & Hersham
It was the visitors who had the first chance of the second-half, as a neat passing move, allowed a Walton player to cross the ball, but Billy Upton was able to slide across and blocked a shot from a Walton forward directly in front of the goal.

Very little goalmouth action apart from the referee handing out yellow cards, as he booked three Stoke players in the space of three minutes, and two minutes later, we made our first change as D’Andre Brown was replaced by Dan Rowe (66mins).

A minute later, and Walton were awarded a very soft penalty, as their forward went down inside the penalty area, and before the penalty kick, Stoke made its first change as D’Andre Brown was replaced by Dan Rowe (66mins). The penalty was converted sending us two behind. Basingstoke 0-2 Walton & Hersham

The next attack fell to Walton, but their forward curled his right-foot shot over the bar.

Stoke had created very little and we made a double-change as Ben Cook was replaced by Connor Harris & Robbie Gallagher was replaced by Josh Dolling (76 mins).
Stoke were then reduced to ten men, as a tackle by Johnson-Schuster, saw him receive his second yellow, and he was off (79 mins).

Walton looked to make it three, but Halliday made a full-length diving save to his right and was able to palm the ball away.
We made our fourth change as Dan Rowe, hobbled off and was replaced by Connor Barratt (89 mins).

Walton then made it three, as we lost the ball in our half, and they broke into our penalty area, and finished neatly, leaving Halliday no chance in goal. Basingstoke 0-3 Walton & Hersham
The referee played six minutes of added-time, before Basingstoke went down to another defeat.

Match Thought’s
Despite all the effort of the players especially in the first-half, we created very little to trouble the Walton keeper, and were given a lesson in finishing. More injuries hit the squad, which clearly does not help.
The win and goal-less streak now hits four, but with a number of other games off due to the weather, we stay in thirteenth.
Up Next:
With no midweek game we head to bottom-placed Tiverton Town next Saturday (6th December).
