Around The League in 48Hrs – Week 10

Around the League in 48Hrs – 23rd January 2019

Well yesterday’s afternoon’s postponement of our match at Chesham Utd, became a bit of a joke for those who had started their journey to the game. Some fans made it to Chesham, others near to Chesham stated that heavy snow was falling nearby earlier in the afternoon and other fans were on the road starting the journey to Chesham, when they found out the game had been called off.

It was clear from a very early point that this game was in danger, so when you hear statements from Chesham that the game is on and their groundsman is preparing the pitch as normal, from mid-to-late afternoon, you have to question it?

I fully understand that fans (certainly at this club), make their own way to the game, so are fully responsible for their own decisions, but surely I have to question what weather view the groundsman and club officials were looking at throughout the day.

Anyway, we will have the pleasure of the trip to Chesham, likely on another Tuesday night in February.

With the fact that the League tries to fit postponed games back in the schedule as soon as possible, likely dates in February are the 12th, 19th or 26th. Remember, the 5th February is already the re-scheduled home match against Salisbury.

Manny’s Back

In other news for the club, Martin Kuhl has brought in two new players into the club, as our growing injury list attacks our squad. Well to be honest only one real new face, as midfielder James Granger from Eastleigh United has signed till the end of the season. The other player is the signing of ex-stalwart forward Manny Williams on dual registration with Slough Town.

For those fans who remember Manny, he always gave the club 100% and I’m sure a few fans may come along this Saturday to see his return to the Camrose pitch in a Basingstoke shirt. Oh by the way, I remember him taking the odd one or two penalties for Stoke in his time at the club!

Including our match there were five games scheduled to take place in our league this week. However, due to various reason, only one game went ahead, and that was Harrow Borough’s visit to the Black Gold Stadium to take on Poole Town. In this match Poole Town took a 3-1 lead with just 11 minutes to go, but were pulled back by goals on 90 minutes and then Dylan Kearney’s second of the match on 93 minutes to take a point as the game finished. Dylan Kearney’s brace now gives him 17 on the season.

Most games were cancelled due to the weather, but the Kings Langley vs Salisbury match, was cancelled as one of King Langley’s main fans and sponsors Matt Allcock just 46, collapsed after last Saturday’s game at Weymouth and was unable to be revived. The club therefore postponed the game in respect of Matt.

The other games postponed were Walton Casuals visit to Hartley Wintney and Weymouth’s visit to Hendon.

Point of Note – Hendon Update

Hendon FC who picked up a point, but really dropped two points after allowing a 2-0 halftime lead slip as they drew 2-2 Saturday. The draw still allowed them to slip one more place and they now sit 16th place with 32pts. That is just 4pts above the relegation places where we sit.

Only Staines Town continued their losing streak which is now upto 13 games.
