Around The League Last Saturday

It is now four wins on the bounce for Basingstoke Town, following a late 81st minute Stefan Brown rebound finish from his own penalty kick, against a dogged Ashford Town side.

The match saw few chances by either side, but the win strengthened Stoke’s playoff push, as they sit in fifth place. Ashford’s right-back Sam Humphreys saw a straight red card for the penalty award.

Bracknell Town returned to winning ways via their latest ‘Buy, Buy, Buy’ striker Alex McLeish-White, who scored both their goals with a two-nil win at Chipstead. They sit 19 points clear from second-place Uxbridge.

The Reds who sit above Chertsey Town on goal difference, returned from Tooting & Mitcham’s Campus Society Stadium with just one point, and even that was through an own goal nine minutes from time that earned them the point after they trailed to a 56th minute penalty conversion by Mark Walters.

The Curlews had the weekend off due to the uneven number of teams in the league.

South Park again dented another playoff teams chances after thrashing Marlow 5- o in the week they held Hanwell Town to a goal-less draw at Whitehall Lane. Hanwell sit in fourth, above Basingstoke Town on goal difference, and without a win in three matches.

Marlow, who got thumped in the week, got back to winning ways but struggled to a 4-2 home win against Staines Town. The Swans drew level on two occasions before Marlow added two goals in the last ten minutes of the match.

Just outside the playoffs in seventh sit a rejuvenated Bedfont Sports who are unbeaten in their last six games, as they won 3-1 on the road at Binfield. The Sports found two late goals to take the points, and with games in hand, could make a serious challenge for a playoff spot.

Northwood’s recent unbeaten run continued with a 1-1 draw at home to Guernsey, with both goals coming in the last fifteen minutes of the game. The Woods remain unbeaten since late December. Guernsey continue to move away from the relegation places and now sit in 16th.

At the bottom, remain Staines who as stated above lost again, this time at Marlow. Just above them sits Chalfont St Peter, who picked up their first point in five matches, as a late 92nd minute equaliser by Isiah Noel-Williams, earned the point at home to draw specialists Westfield.
