This cold and crucial Tuesday night match-up got underway with Stoke defending the clubhouse end in the first-half, and Binfield push forward and Paul Strudley makes an important save to keep out a Binfield strike in the second minute, and they keep us hemmed in our own area for another couple of minutes.

We then break downfield after a neat pass from Callum Winchcombe, finds new signing Paul Hodges, who then slides the ball across the face of the goal, to a waiting Sam Argent, who casually passes the ball towards an open goal, only for the Binfield keeper to get across and kick the ball off the line.

On fourteen minutes we again break down the left through Bradley Wilson, who sends a first-time cross that a Binfield defender has to head out for a corner. The corner kick is caught by the Binfield keeper.

It’s now end-to-end football, as Binfield push forward into our penalty area, we then break down the right and Hodges, finds Argent, who slides the ball to Dunn, who then slides Wilson from around eight yards out, who fires his shot over the bar.

Binfield continue to attack, but good defensive work from Johnson-Schuster & Winchcombe deal with it both attacks.
The heavy pitch is not helping either team as we enter the last ten minutes of the first half, and Sam Argent goes in the book for mis-timed tackle.

The on 43 minutes from Winchcombe throw, he finds Hodges just outside the box, he turns his marker and then slides a neat pass through to Argent, who takes two touches as he goes round one defender then hits a shot from around 12 yards out that the Moles keeper dives and palms the ball away, and a Binfield defender hacks the ball clear.

Callum Winchcombe goes in the book alongwith a Binfield player, after a tackle, causes a few players to start shoving match between both sets of players.
The referee allows four minutes of added-time, before he blows for halftime.

Halftime – Binfield 0 v 0 Basingstoke Town
With no changes at halftime, the second-half gets underway and a Binfield player goes in the book for a late tackle on Argent.

We have a quick attack, and then Binfield break and a cross finds a Binfield striker who mis-hits his shot and Strudley is able to dive on the ball.

Both defences are on top as we move towards the hour-mark, but then a long crossfield pass finds Reid just inside the penalty area, who smashes a volley, just past the far right-hand post.

A nasty tackle on Hodges, five yards outside the box, sees another Binfield player go in the book. The kick however flies high over the bar.

Binfield then break down the right, which results in a cross to the far post, that Strudley catches then drops, as he hits the ground and a Binfield player is first on it, but his shot takes a deflection over the bar. More good work by Johnson-Schuster who heads clear.
We make our first change on 69 minutes, with Sam Argent being replaced by D’Andre Brown.

Then on 73 minutes, a long ball finds George Reid inside the Binfield penalty area, and he takes a touch then smashes a right foot shot that flies past the keeper into the left-hand corner of the net. GOAL ! Binfield 0 – 1 Basingstoke Town (George Reid 73 mins)

Stoke push forward again two minutes later, but Reid’s shot this time is deflected slowly to the keeper.

More timely tackles first by Billy Upton then Scott Armsworth keep Binfield at bay, as we make our second change with Marcio Neves replacing our goal-scorer George Reid (82 mins).

Neves gets involved straight away and tries to round the keeper, but the ball rolls out for a goal-kick.

Binfield have another half-chance but again a timely block puts an end to that.
Then in last minute of normal time, the Binfield No.3 goes in the book, and then he receives a second yellow seconds later and he’s off.

Now in the 92nd minute we make our third change with Paul Hodges being replaced by Lewis Hayden.
We play out a further four minutes, before the referee blows the full-time whistle, and sends the Basingstoke faithful celebrating on the way home.

Fulltime Final Score: Binfield 0 v 1 Basingstoke Town
                                                        Reid 73 mins

Match Thought’s
A superb all-round working performance deservedly gives us all three points, against a tough Binfield side. Reid’s turn to find the net, but special note goes to the defence once again. Seven points clear at the top, just looks fantastic.
