With the earlier evening rain now stopped it was Stoke who nearly took the lead in the opening minute, as a through ball sent Liam Ferdinand away, but as he beat his defender his shot flicked off the keeper into the side-netting, but the referee awarded a goal-kick.

Chertsey then created a chance on the right, and a left foot shot flew wide of the far post.
Chertsey then won a corner on the right, and the kick was met by Chertsey’s Mazzone, and he headed home. Chertsey 1–0 Basingstoke

Stoke had struggled to create anything, but on twenty-three minutes a neat passing-play saw Sam Deadfield’s right-foot shot comfortably saved by the keeper.

Chertsey continued to be the team on top, but our back four were holding firm.

Still very little goalmouth action by either side, as we passed the half-hour mark.
Simon Dunn, then picked up a knock, and was replaced by Brody Peart (38 mins).

With four added minutes, we lost two tackles at the back, and Mazzone toe-poked his shot past Grant in goal. Chertsey 2-0 Basingstoke
We went into the break, with a lot to do to get into the game, let alone get back into it.

Basingstoke made no changes at halftime, and it was immediately noticeable that we come out with a more aggressive attitude, and new-signing Jahmari Clarke is through, he slightly loses control of the ball, but then got pulled down by the keeper and it was a penalty. However Clarke’s penalty shot clipped off the top of the bar and away.

Stoke won a corner on the right a minute later and the low kick was met by Jack Ball, whose well-timed shot flew a foot wide of the right-post.
Stoke continued to press and a Rudy Allen curling cross found Ferdinand whose diving-header hit the keeper from close range and they scrambled the ball clear.
Stoke continued to push forward but Chertsey defended well, as they blocked out a shot a turn and shot from Ferdinand.

Chertsey then made it three from the penalty spot and as a through ball saw Jack Ball bring down a Chertsey forward and was shown a straight a red card. Stoke made it’s second-change with Jahmari Clarke replaced by Jonny Efedje before the penalty take. The penalty was put away. Chertsey 3-0 Basingstoke

Stoke made two further changes with Sam Deadfield replaced by James Clarke & Curtis Angell for Aleks Kokoszka (72 mins).

Despite being a man down, we pushed forward, but clearly this wasn’t going to be our day, and we made our final change with D’Andre Brown replacing Rudy Allen (84 mins).

Kokoszka then picked up the ball in our own half, and went on a run going past three Chertsey defenders before finding Ferdinand, whose shot rebounded harmlessly to the Chertsey keeper.

Six minutes of time were played out before the referee blew the full-time whistle and Stoke go down to another defeat.

Match Thought’s
We never got going, in fact we were poor in the first-half, and Chertsey deserved the lead at the break. Seven minutes of good play at the start of the second-half, including a penalty-miss and headed save that could have put us level, but honestly we did very little else apart from that. Jack Ball’s straight red-card, will likely hinder us when we host Tiverton next in the league.
Now six games without a win!
