Referee – Said Ouchene

It was Stoke who defended the clubhouse in the first-half as the Stoke players got use to the sloping uneven pitch, and it was a long-range shot from the homeside that was comfortably saved by Simon Grant.

Stoke’s first attack was in the fifteenth minute and should have resulted in us taking the lead as neat work from Simon Dunn found George Reid on the left, who then sent over a cross to the far post where Brody Peart timed his run perfectly, but then headed wide from close range.

Reid then found Nnamdi Nwachuku with another cross, but his header was comfortably saved by the keeper.
Still very little goal-mouth action, until calls for a penalty from the Stoke fans behind the goal, goes unheeded, as a shoulder barge on George Reid is waived away by the referee.

This has not been a very entertaining half, not helped by the pitch and the strong wind, and despite one or two lengthy stoppages for injuries, the referee only played one minute of added-time, and we went into the break level.

Halftime Score: Frome Town 0 v 0 Basingstoke Town
Stoke made no changes at halftime with us attacking the clubhouse end this half, and with a need to find a goal, but it’s Frome who create the first chance, as Grant was forced to push a shot out for a corner, which was then punched clear by Grant.

Stoke then after a little pressure took the lead as a cross from Reid on the left was met by Liam Ferdinand who tucked the ball home. GOAL! Frome Town 0 – 1 Basingstoke Town (54 mins)

Stoke then made it’s first changes of the day, as George Reid was replaced by Max Smith & Simon Dunn was replaced by Dan Warre (61 mins).
Stoke continued to push forward and the game should have been put to bed as the ball found Nwachuku on the edge of the penalty area, who took one touch then proceeded to slide the ball wide of the far post.

A minute later Frome broke and levelled the game Frome 1-1 Basingstoke.

Stoke made it’s third change, with Brody Peart replaced by Jack Ball (78 mins).
Stoke were still struggling to create any real chances and we made their fourth change with Nnamdi Nwachuku replaced by Ben Cook (85 mins).

Stoke then won a free-kick about twenty-four yards out, which was met by Upton’s head, but was tipped over the bar by the Frome keeper.
In added-time Warre broke, but his shot was blocked out for a corner, only for the referee to award a goal-kick.
The referee blew the final whistle after eight added-minutes and we take a point back to Hampshire.

Match Thought’s
Maybe the poor pitch did not help our playing style, but that was not simply good enough, despite still being unbeaten in the league. George Reid was outstanding whilst on the pitch and Liam Ferdinand hits his sixth goal of the season.
Need to improve if we are to get anything from Hanwell.
Up Next:
We remain on the road, as we head to Hanwell Town this Tuesday evening (15th) in a 7.45pm match-up.
