This latest autumn afternoon game got underway and Leatherhead attack from the start and win a corner within ten seconds, which we are able to clear.
Our first attack of note is in the fourth minute, when we recover the ball from a cleared cross, and it’s George Reid, who picks up the ball down the right and cuts inside, goes past one defender then hits a shot that the keeper parries and a defender puts out for a corner. Leatherhead are able to clear.
Leatherhead have the nest two chances, but one shot flies straight to Mark Scott in goal, and another shot flies wide of the right-hand post.
On fourteen minutes another Leatherhead results in Scott catching the ball from a header at the far post.
Stoke’s next attack of sorts is a shot from Brody Peart that flies out the ground on 17 minutes.
Then minutes later it’s Bradley Wilson down the left who sends over a cross that Peart gets a flying header to and it flashes inches wide of the far left-hand post.
Coming upto the half-hour and neither team are creating anything of note.
Wilson sets-up James Clarke on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot flies five yards wide.
Still nothing of note, as scrappy passing from both teams do not help.
Then on 36 mins their No.5 there is replaced, appears to be replaced, but then comes back on the pitch and the linesman flags to attract the referee, who then comes over and books him as Leatherhead seem to have 12 players on the pitch.
A shot from a Leatherhead player nearly catches Scott out, but he is able to get back and push the ball over the bar for a corner. The ball flies around the penalty area, but we are able to clear.
A number of injuries have not helped the flow of the game as we move into added-time of the first-half.
Peart goes in the book for a foul just outside our own penalty area. From the free-kick and a cross flies back from the far post to another Leatherhead player who appears to miss-hit it and the ball flies away from the goalmouth.
The referee plays five additional minutes before blowing the halftime whistle.
Halftime – Leatherhead 0 v 0 Basingstoke Town
The game gets back underway and the first thing of note, is Wilson appears to have been shown the yellow card.
Bothe Ezio and then Wilson are flagged for offside in quick succession.
It’s Wilson who then has the next attack for Stoke, as he breaks down the left, cuts inside on his right and hits a shot that flies comfortably wide of the near post.
Leatherhead have a couple of attacks but both attempts go wide of the goal.
Then it’s Ezio’s turn to go in the book, after he appears to have clipped the keeper after he clears the ball (57 mins).
Still very little attacking threat by either side, and we make our first change on 63 minutes with Michael Atkinson replacing Brody Peart.
A couple of attacks by both sides over the next few minutes, are easily defended by both defences.
Ezio looks to have broken clear, but gets pulled down and the defender goes in the book. The free-kick is overhit.
We make our second change with Nathan Smart who tries on about three shirts before replacing George Reid (73 mins). The referee then tells Smart he needs to change his shirt once again.
Then in 76 mins we attack, down the right and cross from Atkinson finds Wilson, whose shot takes a deflection hits the inside of the right-hand post then rolls along the line where the keeper is able get his hands to it.
We’re now in the last ten minutes, and neither team appears to want to win the game.
We then make our final change of 88 mins, with Callum Winchcombe replacing James Clark.
Leatherhead have one final attack which we block out for a corner. The corner is headed out by Armsworth for another corner, which the referee then blows for a foul
In added time we win a free-kick directly in front of goal about 23 yards out. The shot hits the wall and Leatherhead clear out for a corner, which they are able clear.
Simon Dunn then appears to have picked up an injury and hobbles off and Stoke are down to 10-men, but he returns a minute later.
Then one more chance falls to Atkinson, but his shot flies wide of the far post.
Six minutes of injury-time is enough for the referee and he blows the full-time whistle, and Stoke head home to Basingstoke with a point.
Full-time Score: Leatherhead 0 v 0 Basingstoke Town
