Sholing FC 2 – 0 Basingstoke Town  Attendance 276
Where: Universal Stadium, Sholing, Southampton.

Game 2 and despite a better performance we sit bottom of the league!

Martin Kuhl still without the services of Jordan Edwards, took his team on the road(?) to promoted Sholing FC and started with: 1.Chris Rackley, 2. Morgan Toney-Green 3. Adam Everiss, 4. Dean Stow, 5. Andrew Charsley, 6. Joe Hancott, 7. Reece Rusher, 8. Ben Cook, 9. Ben Wright, 10. Claudio Herbert, 11. Harrison Cliff

On the bench; Aiden Harris, D’Andre Brown, Riccardo Andrady and Mikey Davis

A nice warm summers evening greeted Martin Kuhl’s team at the start of tonight’s first away game of the season at Sholing and Stoke were on it from the start creating a good chance on 2 minutes, as Everiss finds Harrison Cliff who fails to get his header on target, as the ball flies over the bar.

We continue to control the midfield battle with Herbert & Cook driving into the opponent’s half of the pitch and on 9 mins it’s Herbert who weaves past two defenders only to be halted as he sets to shoot and the shot trickles to the keeper.

However, on 11 mins all that initial possession goes to waste as a shot from outside the area somehow beats Chris Rackley at the near post, Sholing 1 – 0 Basingstoke Town.

Stoke continue to push forward despite one or two errant passes, but apart from a comfortable save from a Ben Wright shot the next 15 mins seems to fly by.

Joe Hancott is the first to go in the book for a push and from the kick, Sholing earn themselves a corner. The corner is however wasted a sit land on the roof of the net.

Then on 28 mins it is Harrison Cliff who after a nice flick from Herbert, sends a shot that is tipped over the bar by the keeper. The corner is cleared after an initial skirmish in the box.

On 30 mins Sholing break and send a ball across the face of the goal but are unable to get that final touch.

A minute later Herbert starts another attacking move, but the cross is a touch too high for Rusher.

On 37 mins another unblocked cross by Sholing flies past the goalmouth.

On 39 mins and how did they stay out gasp from the crowd behind the goal, as backflipped header by Rusher hits the far post.

On 42 mins a shot from Cook from 30yds finds the safe hands of the keeper.

We should be level, but we go in at halftime trailing 1 – 0.

No changes for Stoke as the second-half gets underway and very little action by either team.

On 54 mins Morgan Toney-Green gets clattered by a Sholing forward and hobbles off and is replaced by Aiden Harris.

We continue to look for that equaliser but that final pass is still missing!

On 59 mins, Rusher creates another half chance for himself, but his curling shot was always going wide of the far post.

On 63 mins and Sholing should have had wrapped the game up, but a lose header flies over the bar.

After a heavy challenge or Cook the referee puts his hand in his pocket but seems to have left his cards in the dressing room.

On 70 mins a nice move down the left allows wright to cut inside, but his shot is still at the keeper. Within the same minute the Sholing No.3 works his way along our by-line and his low cross is sweeped off the line by Everiss.

On 72 mins a mess-up at the back from our throw-in gives the home side a corner. The cross is met by the wide-open giant Sholing No.5 who makes no mistake and heads the ball home and doubles their lead.

On 77 mins and another shot by Wright, this time on his left foot just flies wide of the near post.

Stoke are now running out of time and Sholing are now starting to press as we start to tire and an initial superb block by Charsley, falls back to the Sholing forward, who then has his follow-up cleared away.

On 84 mins Riccardo Andrady is the 2nd substitution, and replaces Harrison Cliff(?)

We now enter 2 mins of injury-time and it’s Sholing with a final chance that is saved by Rackley.

It’s not to be as the referee blows the final whistle.

Final Score: Sholing FC 2 – 0 Basingstoke Town
