Following our Bank Holiday point, we kick off attacking the clubhouse end against bottom-placed Slimbridge and are the first to create an attack as a cross from the right is headed clear to Ben Wright whose shot flies wide.
On six minutes we have further good possession and force a corner, but nothing comes from the corner.
On eight minutes another cross from the left is comfortably cleared with no Stoke player close to it.
On ten minutes Slimbridge have their first corner of the game, which is headed clear. This is followed up by another attack with the shot dragged wide.
On 15 minutes it’s Slimbridge who break following a poor pass in midfield, but the shot is poor to say the least.
More good possession ends up without a shot on goal and we are made to pay as a shot more in hope goes under/past Rackley and we trail 1-0.
Whoops! It is now 2-0 as the home side win a free-kick 25yds out and it’s pushed in our own net by Rackley.
The large Basingstoke contingent are far from happy around the ground and some walk off to get food and drink.
A half-chance for Stoke as the keeper saves the Everiss shot.
Slimbridge go looking for more goals, as the next few minutes sees a corner that we hook clear, which is followed up by a shot that Rackley saves. Another pass outflanks our defence and the cross flies past the face of the goal.
On 38 mins and somehow a Slimbridge forward misses an open goal after rounding our keeper.
Another chance, another save, by Rackley on 42min and we need the halftime whistle to come.
Then an attack from Stoke, but the shot is pulled wide of the post by Ben Cook.
The first half comes to an end with us lucky to be behind by just the two goals.
Halftime: Slimbridge AFC 2 – 0 Basingstoke Town
The second half gets underway and again it’s the home side on the attack, but we are able to block the forwards shot on 50 minutes.
We then create a chance after we pick-up a sloppy pass by the home team, but the move ends with Rusher’s shot which flies past the far post.
We are back on the attack on 53 mins, as the attack allows Rusher to feed Herbert who has time and space to make sure, but his first time shot is sliced 15yds wide of the right-hand post. Cries of anguish behind the goal can be heard!
That should have been three for the home team, as an attacking shot, come cross is pushed back to another Slimbridge player who fluffs the chance as he hoofs it over the bar.
Another chance for Stoke on the hour to get back into the game is wasted, as a quality pass to Rusher’s who goes past his defender but then shoots wide of the near post.
We make our first change on 66 mins, with Aiden Harris being replaced by Riccardo Andrady, and it’s Riccardo who creates a chance within 3 mins of his entry, but the shot by Cliff flies over the bar.
The next 6 to 8 mins sees Stoke to be the team looking for the next goal, but we fail to put any real pressure on the home keeper.
Slimbridge then create a chance but the shot is dragged wide of the far post.
On 79 minutes we have another chance following a Wright pass to Cliff, but Harrison can’t beat the keeper.
On 82 mins Slimbridge on the back foot, create a chance that is blocked by Charsley, this allows us to break and Rusher’s shot is blocked for a corner. The corner is wasted.
On 87 mins and it’s not going to be any comeback today as a Rusher/Wright move, allows Wright to shoot, but it hits the keeper.
More pressure by Stoke as we head into injury-time but even Andrady’s shot flies back off the crossbar.
Slimbridge have their first of not many clean sheets this season, as the referee blows the final whistle.
Final Score: Slimbridge AFC 2 – 0 Basingstoke Town
Up next is high flying Larkhall on Tuesday in Winchester.
