With the drought now over, it was Stoke who kicked off the game with us attacking the grass bank end and the first attack of note was on the fourth minute when Westfield break from our attack and a cross from the right hits a Westfield player, but bounces down and we are able to kick it clear.
We win a free-kick in the 12th minute, but the kick flies high over the crossbar.
Ten minutes passes and then Westfield attack down the left and a shot from the edge of the left hand penalty area flies into the far corner of the net. Westfield 1-0 Basingstoke Town.
Westfield continue to come forward and they win the ball on the halfway line and their player slips it to another player who takes a snap shot from 30yds and it seems to take Strudley by surprise as it finds the left hand corner of the net. Westfield 2-0 Basingstoke Town (24 mins).
Stoke to continue to struggle to create anything of note, but on the half-hour James Clark as a half-chance, but fails to make a proper connection to his shot.
Aiden Lewis then goes in the book for an innocuous challenge.
Westfield then nearly make it three, but a fine save by Strudley, as he dives to his right and palms the shot away.
With less than five minutes to halftime, we still struggle to put any real attack together, as Westfield are able to shut us down each time.
The referee blows the halftime whistle.
Halftime – Westfield 2 v 0 Basingstoke Town
The second-half gets underway and we look to try and get back in the game, although Lewis could have seen a second yellow card, but the referee is lenient with him.
We then attack down the right and the cross is met by Clark whose neat header is somehow pushed out by the Westfield keeper.
Two minutes later we win a corner and we seem to have scored from a header but the lineman’s has flagged for a foul.
Westfield then attack from the restart and a shot from the outside the box flies into the net. Westfield 3-0 Basingstoke Town.
Just minutes later we go four down.
The keeper Sonny Wheeler makes another fine save to keep us at bay.
We make our first substitution on 61 minutes, as D’Andre Brown replaces George Reid.
Sam Argent then goes in the book.
Westfield come forward again, but we are able to win the ball back on the edge of our penalty box.
On 70 minutes we have a nice move down the left and a shot from Michael Atkinson hits the post and the ball rebounds clear.
Some fans have had enough and look to head back to the railway station.
We make our second change with Marcio Neves for Sam Argent (74 mins)
Very little action to note and we make our third change as Luis Le Paih replaces Simon Dunn (80 mins).
The last ten minutes really drags but includes three further bookings by the home-side, which makes five for them.
The referee plays minutes of injury-time before blowing the final whistle.

Match Thought’s
Like many fans who commented last night, it was a strange line-up, that never seemed to work. Westfield who seem to have improved their squad, appeared to shut us down and although their keeper made two stunning saves, we were simply second-best for most of the game.
Up Next:
Well from the league to the FA Cup, and hope for a better result and a cup run, as we travel south down to the quaint village of Brockenhurst, that will be hosting our cup tie against Lymington Town this Saturday.
