The game which initially was not due to have a pitch inspection, then had a heavy downpour of rain about 5.45pm. The referee then arrived and walked the pitch and with the rain still falling, had no alternative but to call the game off.
However, the pitch must have already been sodden, before that downpour and any real rain that evening could have prevented the game from finishing.
