Match preview: Basingstoke Town v Harrow Borough Tuesday 20th November 2018

Match Preview: Evo Stick South Premier Division South

(The Boro) Harrow Borough v Basingstoke Town

When: Tuesday 20th November 2018 Kick-off 7.45pm

Where: Earlsmead Stadium, Carlyon Avenue, South Harrow. HA2 8SS

So, our first away game and our first Tuesday night game for some time, takes us up into North-West London to take on Harrow Borough.

Following Saturday’s woeful loss at home to Merthyr Town, we now face our 2nd opponent who sit within our reach, as we sit in 12th place,  3 points and 3 places behind Harrow Borough in 9th place.

Harrow Borough enter this match coming off a 1-2 win at lowly Swindon Supermarine. There league record of 6 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses and 21pts from 13 games, with an impressive +9 goal difference.

It’s no surprise in the league this season, that Harrow have only kept one clean sheet, a 0-1 loss at home to Gosport Borough, but let’s be clear, the Boro like to score goals, averaging 2.5 goals a game.

Their goals come from a source of players with midfielder George Moore with 7 league and cup goals, leading the way, whilst forwards Ryan Moss 6, Dylan Kearney 5 and Anthony O’Connor 5 goals apiece prove they will be an attacking threat, that we will need to stop.

Having listened to Terry Brown’s post-match interview, prior to finishing this match preview, I have to say comments like these were a long-time coming. After his 1st league defeat and Basingstoke’s 5th loss of the league campaign, it has proved that fortress Camrose, is more of a myth than reality this season.

We failed to put our shots on target yesterday and the few we did were somehow deflected wide. We were also overrun in midfield as the game went on and would hope that Terry has a re-think about our midfield for this match. Putting Dan Collier alongside Charlie Kennedy may help us protect the space in front of the back four.

I would also like us to see us shut down Harrow’s wingers, as Merthyr seemed to be able to cross at will on Saturday. The ongoing lack of height is a clear concern and simply needs correcting.

Other questions concerning our starting line-up will be around who starts upfront? Will we give Mitchell Parker a start and rest either Argent or Wright for Saturday? The fact that Wright was replaced at half-time tends to lean towards the possibility of Wright starting on the bench. I thought Ben had some nice touches early on, but missed a clear chance, and seemed to fade as the game drifted away from us after 30 minutes.

Do we give Harry Philby a chance at centre-back, as he did little wrong when he played their as cover earlier in the season?

Do we find Akers a starting role, or at least give him 30 mins to impress?

That’s a lot of questions, that TB probably has already thought about after reviewing the game tape from yesterday.

I hope and expect that whoever starts on Tuesday, shows the necessary desire and determination the Terry is expecting, and that the team shows a lot more fight on Tuesday night.

It is vital for Saturday’s match that we come away with something from this match!

However, let’s not give up hope, as we are good enough to get back in this league campaign.
