Well five weeks after we lost to Chesham at the Camrose, we travel up to Buckinghamshire to take on Chesham again, in the hope of points on a ground where we do not have the best of records.
Last season we lost 4-1 at the Meadow, with Callum Bunting heading a consolation goal for Stoke. Then in the season before in December 2016 we lost 4-0 on a day where a large number of Btg fans made it clear that they wanted the Owner out. Yes that was over two years ago!!
Nothing much has changed at Chesham since our first meeting this season. They are still jointly Managed by James Duncan & Michael Murray
Chesham Utd, currently sit in 20th in the league, after Saturday’s two-two draw at home to Hartley Wintney, Chesham took the lead twice, but were pegged back by a team that is known for fighting for 90 minutes.
There record now stands at Played 28 Won 8 Drawn 9 and Lost 11 with 33pts. Their goal difference still sits at a poor -18 and are still the lowest scorers in the league with just 29, although they had no problem putting three goals past us last time we played them..
With just 29 goals scored, their leading goalscorer is still Non-League journeyman Jefferson Louis with just 6 goals, and then both Bradley Clayton and Eoin Casey with 4 goals each.
We do know two thing’s about this Tuesday’s match-up. Firstly, they know where our weak spots are, and without doubt will use the same tactics again.
Basingstoke having won 3 of our last four league games, now sit in what seems a comfortable 13th slot. But a couple of wins by teams at the bottom, could easily push us back down the table.
But’s let not dwell on that, as the performances have been superb in recent weeks, and mostly against teams in the top eight of the table.
Martin Kuhl, has had to make numerous changes each week, some due to injury, some due to availability and he must have a pencil and rubber at hand when he starts work on his team for a Saturday.
Therefore dependant on who is available we could have a really strong line-up for the match. The midfield is as strong as it has been all season behind Pearse, Deadfield and the defensive Collier (?) and Atkinson, and with Smart & Argent back in goal-scoring mood, I am hoping that we can put more pressure on their defence this time around at the Meadow.
Who will be our centre-back pairing will be interesting, but whoever it is, they have performed well in recent weeks.
I’m also hoping that one or two players who missed out through injury Saturday are fit to return to the squad tomorrow night.
I am hoping for a strong younger referee for the game and will leave it there.
