The fact that neither team could win on their own park just proved our crazy this level of football can be.

Although we picked up the league win at Hartley Saturday, we are still firmly in the relegation battle, and whilst we played in the cup last night, we slipped a place to 18th in the league.

Although all league matches are important, the two matches against Chesham this month, starting with this Saturday’s home game are 6-pointers already.

I will add more about the Chesham Utd match in my match preview tomorrow.

What is clear, we are now stock-piling injuries in the squad. Ben Wright has been missing for some-time now, and with San Argent & Charlie Kennedy clearly kept on the touchline and hopefully fit for Saturday, we then lost the returning Aaron Redford, for how long, no one knows yet, but it was a sad sight to see him off the park so quickly.

Ok returning to the action in our League this week.

There were three games on Tuesday night, as I mentioned earlier Basingstoke slipped to 18th as Dorchester Town travelled to nearby Poole Town and the Magpies Benjamin Seymour scored the only goal of the game on 18 minutes. This was enough to move Dorchester up three places to 16th place.

The second game I want to mention is some good news, as Gosport our victors on Boxing Day, have slipped a little since then and last night lost 1-0 at Tiverton Town, to a 6th minute goal by Levi Landricombe. This means the Boro now sit 1pt above us but having played 25 games till our 22 matches.

Finally on Tuesday night, the quirkiness of how league re-scheduling due to postponements can happen, as 4th placed Harrow Borough went to Imber Court Sports Stadium to play the Metropolitan Police just four day after hosting them in a 4-3 thriller at Earlsmead Stadium. The result this time was anything but a thriller, as the third 1-0 result on the night, this time in favour of the Boys in Blue who stay behind Harrow Borough on goal difference but with two games in hand. Max Blackmore’s 70th minute winner in front of a poor 130, just proves being successful does not always bring in the crowds.

There was one game played on the Wednesday night as league leaders Taunton Town increased their lead at the top, as they held onto beat Beaconsfield Town 2-1 at the Viridor Stadium. Taunton’s leading goal-scorer Andrew Neal bagged two more the club in the first half in front of a more normal 410 fans, before a Charlie Losasso goal at the start of the second-half was only the response that Beaconsfield could muster.

This pushed Taunton’s lead back to seven points, although they have played more games than both Weymouth and Salisbury.

Point of Note Update

Hendon FC continue to slip down the table and now sit in 12th place and have now lost 9 of their last 10 games.

Only Staines Town are on a worse run of form who have lost 11 on the bounce.

Leading League Goals Scorers

The current table looks like this,

Brandon Goodship – Weymouth 19

Conor McDonagh – Swindon Supermarine 18

Ricardo German – Hendon 17

Andrew Neal – Taunton Town 17

Dylan Kearney – Harrow Borough 15

Jack Mazzone – Met Police 15

Tobias Holmes – Wimborne Town 14

James Ewington – Walton Casuals 14

Colm McAdden

It is understood that Colm McAdden left the club yesterday, and I would like to go record to thank him for all his efforts.

In my view Colm always gave 100% and was a great shot-stopper and indeed penalty saver for the club.

It is always difficult to be a goalkeeper. Being the last line of defence, any mistakes become visibly noticed and on occasions will always cost your team points. Forwards can miss four chance, cost you points, but if they get you an occasional goal they are forgiven.

Not really fair, but simply the way football is!!

Around the League in 48Hrs – 9th January 2019 Well following our final match-up of the year against Hartley Wintney our record sits as PLD 4 WON 2 LOST 2 with it being even stevens in the League, whilst Basingstoke were victorious in the Hampshire Senior Cup and Hartley Wintney in Tuesday night’s League Challenge […]

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

25

post-2430","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-2018-19-news
["GET
