We are now deep in the doo-doo and without a clear obvious way out except for fighting harder than we have before.

Saturday, I thought we were pretty ordinary and never looked in control of the game at any stage. If anything I think despite us having chances, we really did not create enough, and Hendon could and should have scored more.

Many fans have been looking at our remaining matches and have been targeting wins or draws. Although I somewhat agree, I think we need to just go hell for leather in every match and see what occurs. We can win on the road, remember Weymouth, just a month ago, and we can score goals, but currently neither are looking likely.

Up next is our home game against Swindon Supermarine, then the Met Police in March. Then in April we have Tiverton Town, Frome Town and then Taunton Town on the last game of the season.

From that your hoping for at least 3 wins, and the Tiverton & Frome ones are key victories. Met Police are beatable at home, having drawn six game and lost four out of 15 matches, but on our day we can take on and beat anyone at the Camrose. It’s time we take this attitude on the road as well!!

The return of Harry Pearse could be key.

Matches Around Our League

League leaders Taunton Town, yet again proved they are not that invincible on the road, as they lost for the 7th time away from Viridor Stadium. However they are the only unbeaten team at home in the league! This latest loss was at promotion chasing Harrow Borough, who scored the only goal of the game via a 27th minute Ryan Moss penalty.

Taunton’s lead is now down to just one point as second-placed Weymouth, did Stoke a favour by beating Frome 0-2 down in Somerset. A first half goal by Brandon Goodship on 38 minutes was then doubled on 76 minutes by Joshua Wakefield. Weymouth all have a game in hand and thus could go back to the top of the table.

Salisbury remained in third place after cruising to a 1-4 victory at Wimborne. In front of 624 fans, they took a 6th minute lead behind Lewis Benson’s goal and then doubled the lead on the half-hour, when Kane O’Keefe scored. Then on 40 minutes, the reliable Tobias Holmes pulled one back for Wimborne as they went in at the break just down the one goal. However, Salisbury stepped up the play and added further goals on 66 minutes by ex-Stokie Matt Partridge and then on 70 minutes by forward Daniel Fitchett.

The Met Police remain in 4th place and didn’t do Basingstoke any favours going down 2-1 at lowly Tiverton Town took what they thought would be a halftime lead on 42 mins with a goal by Thomas Bath, only for Met Police to force an equaliser on 44 minutes. However, Tiverton did themselves a huge favour adding the winning goal on 90 minutes by Harrison Davis.

The 5th and final playoff place is currently held by Poole Town who went ahead early behind a William Spetch header, then got pegged back on 51 minutes via a Brendan Matthews goal for Beaconsfield, only for the Dolphins to get the winner 6 minutes later via a James Constable penalty. This puts Poole Town two points above 6th placed Harrow Borough.

Ok, the top of the table looks like this;

TEAM

PLD

WON

DRAWN

LOST

PTS

Taunton Town

33

20

6

7

66

Weymouth

32

19

8

5

65

Salisbury

32

18

9

5

63

Met Police

31

16

10

5

58

Poole Town

33

15

9

9

54

Looking at the bottom of the table, I have already covered both Frome Town’s loss and Tiverton’s win, so will start with bottom placed Staines Town, who were officially relegated after this Saturday’s loss to Hartley Wintney, who a week ago, were sitting deep in the relegation area, but after Tuesday’s win at against Wimborne, they followed that up with a 7-0 thrashing of Staines, with forward Mitchell Parker getting a hat-trick.

Sitting in 20th place is now Dorchester Town, who played out a goal-less draw with fellow strugglers Gosport Borough. Fortunately Dorchester’s goal difference is way worse than ours, whilst Borough’s point raised them one place above us into 18th place on 39 points.

In 16th place is Walton Casuals, who thought might struggle once they lost their leading goal-scorer, have now had back-to-back wins including Saturday’s 2-1 win at home against Farnborough. Boro took a 15th minute lead and looked to continue their good recent form, only for it to come unstuck in the second-half as a converted penalty by Cole Brown on 57 minutes was then followed by a 75 minute winner by Mahrez Bettache.

This leaves us with two other games that don’t’ really focus ay either end of the table. Kings Langley beat mid-table Merthyr Town 1-0 behind Mitchell Weiss goal in the 55th minute, whilst Swindon Supermarine were held to a goal-less draw at home to Chesham Utd.

Going forward I have now increased the relegation table to show the bottom five clubs, as things are getting really tight at the bottom;

TEAM

PLD

WON

DRAWN

LOST

PTS

Gosport Borough

33

12

3

18

39

Basingstoke Town

33

11

5

17

38

Dorchester Town

32

10

8

14

38

Frome Town

32

9

3

20

30

Staines Town (R)

33

3

0

30

9

Basingstoke Town leading Goal Scorer Chart

With our goals starting to dry up, the table remains the same as last week.
