At the third time of asking, this game got underway under the lights, with Stoke attacking the cordoned off covered end, and the first action was from Billy Upton who took the ball forty yards down, weaving past three defenders, before sending over a cross that the keeper catches.<\/p>\n
Hayes had the next two attacks, forcing saves out of Simon Grant, as we hit the seventh minute mark.<\/p>\n
Luis Le Paih, then waltzed past two Hayes players before setting up Stefan Brown, but his shot had no power and the keeper made a comfortable save.
\nStoke then created a nice passing move that set-up Paul Hodges, but his side-footed shot, lacked venom as the Hayes keeper made the save.
\nStoke continued to be the team in control, as we hit the half-hour mark, and a shot that their keeper half saves was then hooked away as the ball bounced towards the goal.<\/p>\n
Then with under ten minutes to go to the break, a poor pass straight to a Hayes player allowed them to take the lead, as a shot from outside the box, found the corner of the net. Hayes & Yeading 1-0 Basingstoke<\/p>\n
Liam Ferdinand then created the last chance of the half, as he teed up Dan Rowe, who volleyed his shot wide of the left-hand post.<\/p>\n

\n<\/b>It was Stoke who created the first chance of the second-half, as a through ball to Rowe, saw his shot glance of the outside of the right-hand post out for a goal-kick.<\/p>\n
Stoke then found the back of the net, but there was no need for VAR to rule it out for offside.
\nStoke made its first substitution on 55 minutes, as Paul Hodges was replaced by Simon Dunn.<\/p>\n
Hayes forced a good save out of Grant in goal on the hour-mark.<\/p>\n
Stoke made their second change on 65 mins with Joe Redmond replacing Stefan Brown.
\nStoke struggled to get back into the game, not helped by some loose passing but a good pass from Rowe, set-up Wilson, but his shot was straight at the keeper.
\nWilson then set-up Giamattei, but his shot was saved down low at the near post.<\/p>\n
The Stoke fans were surprised when the referee confirmed only five additional minutes, but in this time Hayes were reduced to ten-men as one of their forwards was shown a second yellow-card.
\nA final shot from Dunn flew over the bar, as seconds later, the referee then blew the final whistle, and Basingstoke went down by the only goal of the game.<\/p>\n

\n<\/b>Our third loss in a row, has taken a bit of the shine of the last few games of the season, as our push for a spot just outside the playoffs, looks to be diminishing. Stoke had a number of good chances in both-halves, but lacked that killer finish, but also some loose passing did not help us at times.
\nThree games to go, on what has seemed a very long season.
