Around Our League On Saturday 18th December 2021

So, whilst our Stoke side sat idle this weekend, and with three other games lost through covid issues, this gave teams a chance to strengthen or improve their league position.

League leaders Bracknell continued their dominance in this league with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to playoff chasers Hanwell Town. A brace by Seb Bowerman and a Hanwell own goal being enough to increase their lead at the top to 12 points. Proving money does count!!

Chertsey Town took full advantage to move up to second place with a comfortable 3-1 win at home to Staines Town. Two first-half goals by Bryan Taylor was more than enough in front of the highest attendance on the day (663), to leave Staines at the bottom of the table.

With Uxbridge losing in the FA Trophy and both Marlow and Bedfont Sports games falling to covid, our Basingstoke side just dropped one place to third.

Note Bedfont Sports are due to travel to Marlow this coming Tuesday, if covid concerns can be resolved.

Binfield’s trip to Guernsey was the other game off due to the current covid crisis.

Ashford Town’s 2-0 home win against Chalfont St Peter, came via a late, late-double from striker Aaron McLeish-White and puts them in 10th place, but in front of just 87 fans. Chalfont’s latest loss leaves them on eleven points, just one place above bottom-placed Staines Town.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd also took advantage to move up the table with a solitary goal victory at home to Westfield. T&M now sit in 11th.

Northwood’s recent run of form since it changed it’s management team and half the squad, came to an end in a single-goal loss at home to Thatcham Town. Ex-Stoke defender Josh Edwards being the scorer for Thatcham.

With just five games yesterday, there was only one player given his marching orders yesterday, this being Hanwell Town’s Sam Saunders.

Up next for Stoke is our home match against Thatcham Town on Monday 27th.
