Around the League in 24 Hrs – 6th March 2019

With Basingstoke Town sitting idle again this week, and only two other league games in our division, I thought I would continue with our fixture hopes, but to clarify that us fans and supporters should really be looking at the next two to three games and not the last four to five games, as if the players do it on the pitch in the next few weeks, then this will ease our concerns anyway.

So I have just included our matches for the rest of March and taken a closer look the opposition;

Basingstoke Fixtures are;

March

2nd  –  Hendon  AWAY   –  Hopes for something out of this? LOST NIL POINTS

9th  –  Swindon Supermarine  HOME  – We are at home and on our day, we can beat anyone and certainly Swindon Supermarine. Their away record currently stands at W 5 D 5 L6.

16th  –  Dorchester Town  AWAY  –  Already looks like a huge six-pointer and with a new Manager expected later this week. Their home record currently sits at W 3 D 5 L 9 which is none to impressive!

23rd  –  Met Police  HOME  –  Defensively we need to be at our best, but again more than winnable. Their away record is W 6 D 6 L 4.

30th  –  Wimborne Town  AWAY  –  The Magpies home record is impressive W 10 D 3 L 4, so tough to pick-up anything, but we have nothing to lose. If we shut down Tobias Holmes, then who knows?

How many points do you think we get from these games?

Budgets

I have seen various threads over the past few months that state that current Manager Martin Kuhl has had to deliver above expectations with a minimal budget. Although that’s partially correct, he did take on the role knowing this was always going to be the situation and that due to our Owner’s utter disregard for his football club, however he has kept the budget the same for Jason Bristow, Terry Brown and indeed now Martin Kuhl.

If anything, Martin has probably had slightly more leeway with the budget due to the current league position. The fact that their have been more sightings of Lord Lucan than our Owner is shocking.

What is different is how each Manager has gone about building the team to perform on the pitch. Martin took over a team that had injuries (all Managers have that to contend with), but he decided to build a squad that he had known from previous clubs. Players left, players were no longer required, and it’s been/is a never ending merry-go-round of loan players and dual registration players one week, then their off, sometimes never to return!

Will his experiment work? However you can’t fault the effort.

Games in our league this week

With just two games, sorry just one as the important one, Tiverton Town’s home game against Chesham Utd was postponed for the third time due to a waterlogged pitch.

That just leaves the Met Police’s visit to Kings Langley. The Kings took the lead on just 6 minutes behind their leading goal-scorer Mitchell Weiss, but were soon pegged back ten minutes later by a John Gilbert goal. Then just past the half hour (35), Met Police scored the final goal of the game by Luke Robertson as the Old Bill won 1-2 and arrested all three points on the night.

Hampshire Snr Cup Semi-Final Draw

Ok it has been confirmed that our Hampshire Cup Semi-Final against SouthamptonU23’s will now take place on Tuesday 2nd April.

A huge game for us, so make a note in your diary and get your fellow Stoke fans out for this one.
