Around the League in 48 Hrs – 27th February 2019
With no Tuesday night games planned going forwards, except the date of the Hampshire Snr Cup Semi-Final game against to be confirmed, this allows me to take a look at the remaining fixtures Basingstoke Town have this season.
As stated on numerous forum posts, match preview and reports, it is now currently looking at a possible minimum of 48 points to be safe from relegation.
However, as this weeks mid-week games will confirm and with Basingstoke sitting in 15th place, the likelihood could be one even more worryingly than that?
Basingstoke Fixtures are;
March
2nd – Hendon AWAY – Hopes for something out of this?
9th – Swindon Supermarine HOME – Tough match-up, but a Camrose advantage
16th – Dorchester Town AWAY – Apart from an FA Trophy win our league record there is poor.
23rd – Met Police HOME – Tough match-up against the high-scoring Old Bill.
30th – Wimborne Town AWAY – The Magpies home record is impressive, so tough to pick-up anything.
April
6th – Tiverton Town HOME – Possibly a 6-pointer
13th – Poole Town AWAY – Another tough road trip against a playoff hopeful.
20th – Frome Town HOME – Possible game against a relegated Frome team?
22nd – Farnborough AWAY – Bank Holiday match-up against a rival?
27th – Taunton Town HOME – Last game at the Camrose against possible League Champions?
How many points do you think we get from these games?
Games in our league this week
So with another four mid-week games this week, the results were not as we had hoped for;
Starting with Hartley Wintney’s home tie against Wimborne Town. Hopes that the Magpies would do us a favour were soon put aside, as the home team went ahead on 13 minutes from a Michael Campbell goal. They then doubled the lead just after the half-hour with a Steven Duff goal. The second-half saw Hartley extend their lead through Stoke departee Mitchell Parker. The win pushed Hartley upto 14th in the league. Whatever, the reason Parker left when Martin Kuhl arrived, that was Parker’s goal for the Row!
Up next was Harrow Borough’s home time versus lowly Walton Casuals. Hoping for a home win, Harrow took the lead on 36 minutes behind a Shaun Preddie goal, however they could only hold this lead until the 51st minute equaliser by Cole Brown and the Casuals held onto for a valuable point and moved them out of the relegation zone and up two places to 18th.
Up next was playoff hopefuls Weymouth visit to Hendon. Hendon took a surprising 23rd minute and held onto this until the 65th minute when Jordan Ngalo scored with a long range shot. Then just 11 minutes later Brandon Goodship added another to his season’s tally and then a 25yd thunderbolt from Jake McCarthy gave Weymouth a two-goal cushion, until an 88th minute goal by Hendon’s Ogo Obi was the last goal on the night, as Weymouth won 2-3 and sent Hendon down to 16th in the table.
The last game of Tuesday’s night’s fixtures saw Chesham’s Bradley Clayton score the only goal of the game on 81 minutes against the visitors Gosport Borough. Borough’s loss dropped them down to 17th in the table.
There was only one game on Wednesday night as Swindon Supermarine visited league leaders Taunton Town. The Marine were able to hold the table toppers goal-less at halftime, but on 54 mins the reliable Andrew Neal added his 19th of the season, as he put Taunton ahead, but Swindon fought back and on 86 minutes got the equaliser from Liddiard and the Marine held onto to dent Taunton’s Championship run. Swindon moved upto 9th place on the end of this result.
Hampshire Snr Cup Semi-Final Draw
Ok we are still awaiting for the date of our Semi-Final home tie against Southampton U23’s, but as Basingstoke has four free Tuesday’s this month, I would assume it will be scheduled for one of them?
The other Semi-Final match-up is still to be confirmed as stated below
Sholing FC or AFC Bournemouth vs Havant & Waterlooville FC
Evo-Stick South Premier Division South – Goal Scoring Chart
This table is from Evo-Stick Website, so assume it is accurate.
The current table looks like this,
Brandon Goodship – Weymouth 28
Tobias Holmes – Wimborne Town 27
Conor McDonagh – Swindon Supermarine 22
Max Blackmore – Met Police 19
Andrew Neal – Taunton Town 19
Jack Mazzone – Met Police 18
Dylan Kearney – Harrow Borough 18
Ricardo German – Hendon 17
Attendances In Our League
Ok since last week with no home game, we now sit in 8th place for the average at home attendances of 378 per home game. This week’s opponents Hendon sit in 15th place with an average of 243.
Games To Keep An Eye On This Weekend
With us just outside the relegation places, but within two points of that bottom three, here are the more important games that can affect our position.
Dorchester Town (19th) Vs Gosport Borough (17th)
Frome Town (21st) vs Weymouth
Hartley Wintney (14th) vs Staines Town
Tiverton Town (20th) Vs Met Police
Walton Casuals (18th) Vs Farnborough
Would think we get maybe 10 points from this game, which may not be enough to keep us up, but then other teams won’t necessarily do well either?
