Around the League in 24Hrs – 17th December 2018
With no games planned for this Wednesday, this will be the shorter version of around the league in just 24hrs this week.
Firstly, I’m really glad that Basingstoke Town wasn’t one of those 12 teams who had games scheduled for this week. The weather on Tuesday was pretty nasty and if the game (a big if) had gone ahead, I think the weather would have clearly affected the quality of the game and would have been none too pleasant for our fans to stand and watch.
Anyway, as stated there were 6 games scheduled for Tuesday.
However, due to the dreadful weather the games between Kings Langley v Met Police, Merthyr Town v Weymouth and Poole Town v Tiverton Town were postponed throughout the day.
This left us with the following games to update on;
I would like to start with Dorchester Town’s home game against last Saturday’s opponents Swindon Supermarine, where I seemed to have spoken too soon, as the Magpies were amazingly shut out at home to the Marine 0-3. Dorchester had scored 14 goals in their last 3 games away from the Avenue Stadium (4, 6, & 4), and were starting to climb up the league. Whilst Swindon coming off that emphatic 5-2 win against Stoke, scored goals behind a first-half own-goal and then second-half goals by striker Conor McDonagh and a penalty by Bradley Hooper. This dropped Dorchester Town back to 17th slot, whilst Swindon Supermarine moved all the way up to 13th place after their back-to-back wins.
With the Met Police idle, Harrow Borough took full advantage and moved up two places in 4th place in the league with a 2-1 win at home against Beaconsfield Town. After trailing early, the Boro scored goals by striker Dylan Kearney in either half to secure the win.
The remaining game in our league on Tuesday night was the more worrying goal-scoring form of our upcoming opponents Walton Casuals.
The Stags after beating Hendon 5-1 on Saturday at the Elmbridge Sports Hub, followed that up with a 3-0 win against Wimborne Town. Another goal by James Ewington gave the Stags a 1-0 halftime lead, and then second-half goals by Daniel Parker and Taurean Roberts secured their victory.
FA Trophy & Basingstoke Fixture Updates
Salisbury’s game against Braintree Town was postponed for the second time on Tuesday and according to their website, it now expected to take place on Tuesday 8th January. This means that the rearranged home game against Salisbury FC, will have to be moved once again.
It now appears that we will be hosting Hartley Wintney in the League Challenge Cup on Tuesday 8th January.
I can also confirm that the Kings Langley away match has been confirmed for Tuesday 15th January 2019.
Hampshire Snr Cup
Ok it was confirmed on Tuesday that the Qtr Final Draw will take place this Saturday live on Solent radio just after 6pm. We will be the No.6 ball of the 8 balls that will be drawn, so if you get a chance, try and listen to who we will face in the next round.
Leading League Goals Scorers
Ricardo German’s goal last night gives him 16 for the season and level with Weymouth’s Brandon Goodship who hit the back of the net 3 times last Saturday.
The table currently stands as follows;
Ricardo German – Hendon 16
Brandon Goodship – Weymouth 16
Ian Traylor – Merthyr 11
Ryan Penney – Gosport Borough 11
Jack Mazzone – Met Police 11
Andrew Neal – Taunton Town 11
Finally, Saturday will see Basingstoke Town’s last game before Christmas, so I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and hope to see you on Saturday.
Again Martin another good post, something that the club does not provide.
Thanks Larry, we try to do our best. Have you got any plans to come to game soon?
