Around The League With Just Four Games Remaining

Around The League With Just Four Games Remaining

Well with virtually no mid-week games apart from Easter Monday it’s time to take a closer look at the prospects that face us and the other relegation contenders in the four remaining games for each team.

In the table below are the bottom 8 teams in the league, which includes Hendon in 15th who sit five points above the last relegation spot currently held by Gosport Borough. It is highly improbable that any team above Hendon could fall this far as some teams below them have to play other relegation challenged teams thus one or both of those teams will drop  points.

For this article we will cover each team’s next two games and their likely points and position scenario.

Anyway starting at the bottom,

The table at the moment looks like this;

Team PLD WON D LOST PTS
Hendon 38 13 9 16 48
Basingstoke Town 38 13 7 18 46
Tiverton Town 38 12 10 16 46
Wimborne Town 38 13 6 19 45
Walton Casuals 38 12 9 17 45
Gosport Borough 38 13 4 21 43
Frome Town 38 11 3 24 36
Staines Town 38 4 34 12

Frome Town 36pts (21st) – Nine points and goal-difference away from safety.

Sat 13th  They host Hartley Wintney, knowing without a win they are virtually relegated. Wintney have performed above expectations on the road. At best + 1

Sat 20th If not already relegated travel to the Camrose, where they will a Stoke side fighting for all 3 points, so let’s count them down here. 0   Expected Total 37pts and automatic relegation.

Gosport Borough 43pts (20th) – Now just two points away from safety after last week’s win at Salisbury.

Sat 13th  They host Merthyr Town whose are on the slide having just won win (Staines) in their last nine games. You would assume a point at least and probably three. +3

Sat 20th  They travel to Staines and assume another win + 3 Expected Total 49pts

Walton Casuals 45pts (19th) – Who destroyed Frome at home 4-1 last week.

Sat 13th They host Tiverton in a six-pointer, who snatched a point at the Camrose, will be a tight game. Give the Casuals a home win. +3

Sat 20th  They travel to Salisbury team in desperate need of some confidence as they head into he playoffs. Expect a home win for the Whites 0 Expected Total 48pts

Wimborne Town 45pts (18th)  – Three losses in a row have Wimborne in trouble.

Sat 13th They travel to Harrow against a team that shows even less consistency than most teams. But the Magpies are on a shocking run especially on the road. 0

Sat 20th The Magpies host Swindon Supermarine who have won 3 of their last four games. At best Wimborne earn a point. 1 Expected Total 46pts

Tiverton Town 46pts (17th)  –  Stole a point from Basingstoke last weekend

Sat 13th As stated above they travel to Walton and think the Casuals will pick up the win. 0

Sat 20th They host Harrow and think they can beat them on that heavy pitch. 3 Expected Total 49pts

Basingstoke Town 46pts (16th) – Will the two points come back and haunt us at the end of the season. Goal difference is on our side currently.

Sat 13th We travel to Dorset to take on a team who has had back-to back wins, but lost to Hendon last time they played at home. The pressure is on them in a must win situation. Think we come away with a point? 1

Sat 20th  We host Frome, very likely relegated by then, in a game we are strong favourites to win and may well have to. 3 Expected Total 50pts

Hendon 48pts (15th) – They don’t score or allow many goals and added them as a last option as I have seen their last four fixtures which are all tough.

Sat 13th  They travel to Farnborough, which will be a tough one. 0

Sat 20th They host Taunton and think they need and will earn at least a point. 1 Expected Total 49pts

So the table moving into the Bank Holiday fixtures could look like this?

Team PLD WON D LOST PTS
Basingstoke Town 40 14 8 18 50
Hendon FC 40 13 10 17 49
Gosport Borough 40 15 4 21 49
Tiverton Town 40 13 10 17 49
Walton Casuals 40 13 9 18 48
Wimborne Town 40 13 7 20 46
Frome Town 40 11 4 25 37
Staines Town 40 4 36 12

But remember Basingstoke Town have two final matches to play.
