Hythe & Dibden 1 – 3 Basingstoke Town – Saturday 15th July 2023
Basingstoke travelled the short distance down to the south coast to take on Hythe & Dibden, with the notable support from the Stoke regulars.
Stoke kicked of playing downhill in the first-half, and took the lead through a neat flick home from James Clark.
Stoke doubled their lead via the penalty spot, after Paul Hodges appeared to get pulled down. Bradley Wilson stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way.
Stoke then missed a couple of further chances, which was interrupted by a pitch invasion. The referee and Billy Upton did a fine job in removing the over eager young dog.
The homeside then pulled a goal back before the break, after a fine curling free-kick beat Mark Scott in goal.
Stoke started the second-half and redoubled their lead after a good header from Paul Hodges.
No more goals were to arrive, despite both teams having half-chances and Stoke left Clayfields with a confident 3-1 victory.
