Match Preview: Evo Stick South Premier Division South
Basingstoke Town v Tiverton Town
When: Saturday 6th April 2019 Kick-off 3.00pm
Where: The Camrose Stadium, Western Way, Basingstoke. RG22 6EZ

Following back-to-back good performances, we enter the last month of the season and this Saturday’s massive game against Tiverton Town.

Basingstoke currently sit just two places above Tiverton Town in 16th place, but this is only on goal difference. In the reverse fixture back at the end of September, Stoke took the lead via a Dean Stow penalty, but then it all fell apart as the hosts equalised just two minutes later and then went on to add another three goals as we lost 4-1 and our poor record at their ground continued.

However, our home record against Tiverton is good, as we beat them 6-2 at the Camrose last season. That day five goals by Sammie Argent and the other by GeorgeBennett as we tore them apart for 90 minutes.

How we would love to see some more of the same this Saturday.

Tiverton nicknamed ‘The Tivvy’ or ‘The Yellows’, are managed by Martyn Rogers who was sent off in the match back last September.

Their last six matches have brought mixed fortune, as they won three games on the bounce before going on their current three game losing streak. Those losses were 3-2 at Farnborough and 0-2 and 1-2 at home against Chesham Utd and Kings Langley respectively.

Their overall record sits at PLD 37 WON 12 DRAWN 9 LOST 16 with 45pts. Their leading goal-scorer and someone we need to shut down is 28-year old forward Levi Landricombe who has 19 goals on the season and over 100 goals for the club in 3 ½ seasons. Felloe forward Tom Bath (24) has seven goals on the season, whilst their other forward Stewart Yetton (33), has just 3 goals.
They have a vastly experienced defence including captain 31-year old Jamie Price, whilst 35-year old Tom Gardner has over 600 appearances for the club.

Well to the Hampshire Snr Cup finalists, your Basingstoke Town, who have four points from their last two league games, including that stunning second-half performance at Wimborne.

The teams morale must also be at a high following the mid-week beating of Southampton U23’s and the team looks settled as we enter our last five important games.

As stated, we sit in 16th place in the league our record now sits at Played 37 Won 13 Drawn 6 Lost 18 with 45pts.

Our home record stands at W 8 D 3 L 7 and have scored 37 goals at home, an average of just over two goals a game.

The defence unless injuries occur will line-up with Tom McGill in goal and a defence consisting of Dean Stow, Jack Wakely, Dan Bayliss and Adam Everiss.

The midfield depending on what shape we go with will include the Sam Deadfield and Harry Pearse. Sam Smart who was unstoppable Tuesday will play that winger role and upfront I hope to see Yvan Jourdan in the line-up with Sam Argent.

This is a huge game for both teams and the winner will go along way in securing their safety in the league.

Let’s just hope it’s the home team!

Come along to the Camrose and get behind your team this Saturday.

Odds please Ian, when you get a chance.
