Match Preview: Bet Victor Division One South
Basingstoke Town v Highworth Town (The Worthians)
When: Saturday 5th October 2019 Kick-off 3.00pm
Where: The Simplyhealth Stadium, Winchester, RG22 6EZ
The first match preview of the new season takes into account that finding accurate sources via club sites may be more difficult than ever before, especially as the Bet Victor League Website, is shockingly not up-to-date with inaccurate data and information.
Well we return to our temporary home in Winchester after three consecutive away matches to take on 10th placed Highworth Town. A win and two league draws still leaves us adrift at the bottom of the table, but the squad has shown signs of finally turning the page on the shocking start to the season.
Highworth Town known as the Worthians have a record of PLD 7 WON 3 DRAWN 1 LOST 3 with a total of 10pts. However, their current shows they are more dangerous on the road with 2 wins and a draw from 3 games.
Their last 3 league games have been a 1-0 win at home to Sholing, a 0-3 loss at home to Melksham Town and a 1-1 draw at Frome Town. However they did lose 0-4 on Wednesday night in the League Challenge Cup to their local rivals Swindon Supermarine whose ground is just 2.5 miles away.
As for goal-scorers, with just 7 goals scored their forward Stephen Robertson has two of those goals.
As for your Basingstoke Town side, the initial signs of the change in Manager, appear to have had an effect as stated earlier, we are unbeaten since the change, but still effectively need to get that first league win as our record stand at Played 8 Won 0 Drawn 3 Lost 5 with just 3pts.
Yes we have plenty of time to turn this around, but apart from the 2pt gap between us and Bristol Manor Farm & Moneyfields, they have played a surprising 3 games less than us.
We have similar to Highworth scored 7 league goals and even broke our duck on the road with that clinical finish by Mikey Davis at Mangotsfield. Our league leading goal-scorers are forward Ben Wright, who missed Tuesday night through injury and midfielder Claudio Herbert both with two goals.
We have also scored in all four home league performances, so I hope that trends continues on Saturday.
It will be an interesting team selection that Dan Brownlie will have as Dean Stow will return with the Captain’s armband and possibly both AFC Wimbledon loanees could see starts. Plus if forward Ben Wright returns from injury will Riccardo Andrady who continues to impress the fans, start on the bench?
The team spirit is there as shown at North Leigh and Mangotsfield, so I am hoping for a big performance this Saturday, so come along and get behind your club.
Weather is expected to be dry and cloudy.
Presume there are no odds for this level Ian?
