It was soon noticeable that Uxbridge were stifling Stoke’s ability to play, as they harried every Stoke player on the ball.
Uxbridge, were showing why they were sitting in the playoff places, as they neatly passed the ball around our final third of the pitch, and in the eleventh minute, they made it count, as a through ball allowed Uxbridge’s Francis Amartey, to break clear into our penalty, then set himself, before clipping the ball over the advancing Simon Grant into the net from eight yards. Basingstoke Town 0-1 Uxbridge

Uxbridge continued to shut us down, and after winning the ball thirty-five yards, a simple through ball opened up our defence once more and Uxbridge’s Trevan Robinson, had the luck on his side, as Grant blocked his first shot, but the ball rebounded back to Robinson, and he turned and slammed the ball into an open goal. Uxbridge continued on top, and neat passing move by them was stopped, as Joe O’Loughlin was first to the cross from the left, as cleared the ball away for a throw-in on the left.
The visitors were looking for a third, and Amartey, broke through our defence once more, but this shot was fortunately hit wide of the left-hand post.

Stoke had the next couple of minutes of play, which resulted in a cross that Billy Upton rose, but could not control his header, as it flew wide of the right-hand post.

After more play by Uxbridge, it was Stoke who pushed forward, as Tom Blake pushed forward and then cut inside and found Hadi, whose shot was saved by the Uxbridge keeper.

A minute later, it was further good work by Blake as he neatly cut inside from the left, but his shot left a lot to be desired, as it flew over the stand behind the goal.

Five minutes before the break, an Uxbridge played smashed a volley from thirty yards, that swerved towards Grant who was able to palm the ball away and out for a corner on the right.

Match Thought’s
Uxbridge showed why they went top of the table following their win tonight, as they were two yards quicker than us, and harried every Stoke player on the ball for the first hour of the game. Stoke played well in small patches, and did have their moments, and with better luck, could have got back into the game. Amir Hadi and Tom Blake combined well at times, but Uxbridge stood firm, and confirmed why they’ve only conceded eight league goals all-season. Despite other results, we remain in 13th as we face another tough game this Saturday.
