Basingstoke’s latest game on the road got underway with us defending the clubhouse end, and there was nothing to note in the few minutes.
Then in the tenth minute Luis Le Paih, intercepted the ball in the middle of the pitch and then slid the ball through to Bradley Wilson, who broke clear from his marker, and then neatly rounded the oncoming Sholing keeper and slotted the ball into the open net GOAL! Sholing FC 0 – 1 Basingstoke Town (Wilson 10 mins)
Sholing had the next couple of minutes of play forcing a corner from the right, which we are able to defend.
Then we break down the right through Dan Rowe, who beats his defender and sends the ball over to Luis Le Paih who has found some space in the box, who hits a first-time shot that finds the far left-hand corner of the net and Stoke double their lead. GOAL!! Sholing FC 0 – 2 Basingstoke Town (Le Paih 16 mins)
Sholing have the next attack, forcing a save out of Paul Strudley down low at the right-hand post. Sholing force another corner on the right, but it is overhit and flies out for a goal-kick.
Stoke then push forward again through Wilson down the left, and we pass the ball from the left to the right, as we try and find an opening, but Sholing are able to hold us off.
Sholing waste another corner has it flies out for a goal-kick once again.
Then on the half-hour we create two chances, as Paul Hodges finds Wilson who breaks down the left and sends over a cross, that is just itching for a Stoke player to get a touch to it. Stoke are straight back on it through Le Paih, who picks out Dan Rowe at the far post, whose header is palmed away by the keeper for a corner. The corner kick is met by Scott Armsworth whose header flies a couple of yards wide of the far left-hand post.
George Reid then outmuscles the Sholing defender and slides the ball to Wilson whose low cross forces a Sholing defender to block the ball out for a corner. Nothing come from the corner.
Stoke win two further corners, but are defended well by Sholing.
The referee who has already booked a couple of players then brings a halt to the game as Michael Atkinson, wins a tackle and looks to break, and adds Atkinson’s name to his book for potential handball.
We are now in added-time and Sholing push forward again, and force a corner, but it is fortunately wasted once more, flying out for another goal-kick.
A minute later, the referee blows for halftime, and we go into he break with a well-deserved two-goal lead.
Halftime Score: Sholing FC 0 v 2 Basingstoke Town
With no changes by Stoke, the game gets back underway, with both teams pushing for the next goal, and Sholing force another good save out of Strudley in goal.
We then break down the right via good work from Markus Johnson-Schuster who finds Rowe, who wins a corner. The corner is initially cleared, but Atkinson attacks down the left, and sends the ball across to the middle and the ball is clipped into the heart of the goalmouth, and the ball falls to Rowe who hits a left-foot shot, that the Sholing keeper blocks away, but the ball from a challenge inside the box fall straight back to Rowe, who hits a side-kick past the keeper into the net. GOAL!!! Sholing FC 0 – 3 Basingstoke Town (Rowe 59 mins)
This looks to have hopefully settled the game, and George Reid looks to come forward and wins a corner. Sholing defend the corner.
Stoke decide it’s time to make some changes with, Luis Le Paih replaced by D’Andre Brown (68 mins).
Sholing have an attack but a shot from outside the box flies high over the bar.
Stoke then make their second change with Ashleigh Artwell replacing Paul Hodges (72 mins).
Then Reid goes on one of his runs, but his shot this time is pulled wide of the right-hand post.
More good work by Rowe, should see us win a corner, but the referee strangely awards a goal-kick.
The ground announcer confirms the attendance as 334, with yet again another big Stoke contingent swelling today’s crowd.
Dre then goes on a nice move down the left but his cross is blocked away.
Morrison Hashii is our third change replacing Bradley Wilson (80 mins).
Moving into the last five minutes of the game, we attack down the right and a cross finds Artwell whose header hits the bar, but the referee has given offside anyway.
Then we attack a minute later, the ball is slid through to Artwell who makes no mistake slotting the ball into the left-hand corner of the net. GOAL!!!! Sholing FC 0 – 4 Basingstoke Town (Artwell 86 mins)
Sholing, have an attack, but again their shot is poor flying over the bar.
We are now in added-time, and Rowe does some good defensive work, as we look to see out the game.
We are now in the sixth minute of added-time and the referee has played enough and blows the final whistle, sending the Stoke faithful home happy.
Full-time Score: Sholing FC 0 v 4 Basingstoke Town
Wilson 10 mins, Le Paih 16 mins, Rowe 54 & Artwell 86 mins
