Our penultimate away game of the season got underway, with a beautiful blue sky overhead, as Basingstoke attacked the small covered terrace in the first-half.

There was little action in the first few minutes, on what seemed a bumpy grass pitch, until a Marine player went in the book for a late tackle on Elliott Bolton.

This was to change on twelve minutes, as Marine opened the scoring, as their r leading goal-scorer, who had time and space to take two touches before thumping home a shot from twelve yards. Swindon 1-0 Basingstoke

Minutes later a move involving three Stoke players down the left, saw Bradley Wilson, cut inside, but drag his shot wide of the left-hand post as he entered the penalty area.
Stoke continued to push forward, and despite calls to shoot from the crowd, we were unable to pull the trigger on a shot, as Supermarine’s defence dealt with our attacking threat.

Calls for a homeside penalty, were waived away for offside as a Marine forward collided with Simon Grant, who received two minutes of treatment, before he was able to continue.

Liam Ferdinand then created a half-chance, but his shot slid inches wide of the right-hand post.

Swindon then doubled their lead just past the half-hour, as their forward was able to weave through three Stoke defenders, before thumping the ball home. Swindon 2-0 Basingstoke
Stoke still seemed unable to put any pressure on the Swindon keeper as we closed-in on halftime, but were then forced to make its first change, as Curtis Angell picked up an injury, and was replaced by Luis Le Paih (45 mins).
Stoke looked to get back into the game, but a Stoke attack, saw the Marine keeper tip the deflected shot over the bar.
Another blocked shot rebounded to the Swindon keeper, as the referee blew the halftime whistle.

Halftime Score: Swindon Supermarine 2 v 0 Basingstoke Town
Swindon looked to add a third goal, as the game restarted, but the shot, come, cross, saw Le Paih hook the ball clear.

Stoke were still struggling to get a foothold, back into the game, but from a corner Wilson found space inside the box, but his shot flew over the bar.
A free-kick just outside Marine’s penalty area, was wasted as Bolton’s kick, flew wide of the goal.

Swindon then nearly added a third, but the Marine forward clipped his shot wide of the far right-hand post.

Stoke then made back-to-back changes, with James Clark replaced by Joe Redmond, and Simon Dunn replaced by Dan Rowe (69 mins).

The game seems to have lost all life in it, not helped by the bumpy pitch, as we headed into the final ten minutes.

Swindon then had two chances to add a third, but both shots fortunately flew wide.
Swindon however did find their third goal as we closed in on normal time. Swindon3-0 Basingstoke

This was the call for many Stoke fans to go search of their cars, as the referee played a further couple of minutes, before blowing time on another Stoke loss.

Full-time Score: Swindon Supermarine 3 v 0 Basingstoke Town
Sim-Burgess 12 mins, Elias-Fernandes 31 mins
Campbell 89 mins

Match Thought’s
After our midweek loss at Hayes & Yeading, we struggled to get going once again, in what was a fairly drab game. Unable to find the net again, we are slipping closer to the bottom half of the table, as we look over our shoulders at other teams result more closely now.
Up Next:
We host an improving Dorchester Town side at Winklebury, in our last home game of the season, next Saturday (20th).
