This rare Easter Friday game got underway with Stoke attacking the grass bank end and there was very little to note in the first few minutes, but with Stoke pushing forward.
Stoke continue to push forward and win two corners over the next few minutes, but both are comfortably dealt with by Westfield’s defence.
Westfield break forward on 23 minutes, but a combination of Nathan Smart & Dan Williamson deal with the attack.
We are then forced into our first change as George Reid has picked up what seems a hamstring injury and is replaced by Lloyd Snell (33 mins).
Stoke continue to be the team on top, but Westfield prevent us from creating anything of note.
Then our possession finally bears fruit as we cross the ball from the left, and the ball falls to Ben Cook, who hits a volley that the keeper only gets and a hand to but is unable to stop it as the ball flies past the keeper into the net. GOAL ! Westfield 0 – 1 Basingstoke Town (Cook 41 mins)
Westfield push forward, but their attack breaks down on the edge of our penalty area.
The referee plays one minute of added time and blows the halftime whistle.

The game gets back underway, and again Stoke look like the team on the front-foot, but Westfield’s defence continues to hold firm.
Then on 54 minutes Westfield create their best attack of the game, as they come forward and force a superb save out of Paul Strudley as he parries a shot, and we are able to clear the ball away.
We then break down the left, and the ball is crossed to Lloyd Snell who has time to bring the ball down, but decides to hit a first-time volley that flies wide of the goal.
Stoke then push forward again through Lloyd Snell who breaks down the left and the cross falls to Conor Lynch who slots it home GOAL !! Westfield 0 – 2 Basingstoke Town (Lynch 65 mins)
Stoke appear to have this game under control and our defence continues to looks dominant and deals with any Westfield attack.
Stoke continue to push forward but Westfield’s defence holds firm.
We make our second substitution on 73 mins with Brody Peart replacing McKoy Palmer.
Then on 75 mins the ball is pushed through to Brody Peart who takes the ball down the left cuts past his defender, but his shot finds the side netting.
We then make our final change with Anton Rodgers replacing Ben Cook (76 mins)
It is still Stoke pushing forward through Dan Williamson breaking down the right wing, but a shot from Lynch is blocked on the edge of the six-yard box.
It is still Stoke coming forward, and we have this game under control moving into the final few minutes.
We are now in injury-time and the referee plays three minutes of added time before blowing the full-time whistle.

Match Thought’s
A good solid performance with our defence under very little pressure throughout the game. Another goal by Golden Boot winner Conor Lynch and a first-half finish by Ben Cook more than enough for the three points and consolidates our playoff place.
