Monday Morning Quarterback – Week 3 Upon Further Review

Monday Morning Quarterback –  Week 3 – Upon Further Review

My 3rd weekly report, will be a lot shorter this week as Basingstoke’s game was one of three games in our Divisions games that succumbed to the weather. These games were our visit to the improving Kings Langley, 1st placed Taunton Town’s home match against playoff hopefuls Beaconsfield Town and a relegation battle between bottom placed Staines home game against 19th placed Dorchester Town.

With both Weymouth and Walton Casuals idle Saturday as well, this mean’t that there were just 6 games in our league played this weekend.

Well starting from the top, Salisbury remained in 3rd place after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to a vastly improving Met Police team, where both goals came in the first 10 minutes of the match.

The remaining two playoff slots, saw Hendon Town end their poor run of form as they won their first match in five games with a 3-0 win against 5th placed Merthyr Town at Earlsmead Stadium, with Cole Brown snagging two of the goals.

On the edge of the playoff spots are Harrow Borough in 6th place after they took apart Farnborough 5-0 at home with two more goals from impressive forward Ryan Moss.

Poole Town moved up one slot to 10th, but will feel that they let dropped 2pts with a 1-1 tie at lowly Frome Town.

The top of the table appears like this;

Team                          PLD           WON        DRAWN     LOST     PTS

Taunton Town              17               12              2            3         38

Weymouth                   15               10              3            2         33

Salisbury                     17                9               4            4         31

Hendon                       17                9               4             4         31

Merthyr                       16                8               4             4         28

At the bottom of the table, we saw Chesham Utd continue their fight away from the bottom of the table, as they won their 3rd match in four games with a 1-2 come from behind win at Hartley Wintney.

Wimborne Town picked up 3pts with a good win at home to Tiverton, with Tobias Holmes & Luke Burbidge the scorers for the Magpies. This win moved them above Basingstoke as we slipped two further places down the table to 18th.

The other team to move above us was Swindon Supermarine who beat mid-table Gosport Borough 2-1

The bottom 3 relegation places look like this;

Team                     PLD           WON        DRAWN        LOST        PTS

Frome Town            18                4                3              11          15

Chesham Utd           17                4               3               10          15

Staines Town           18                3                0               15           9

This Tuesday, we have our second match-up against Hartley, when we travel to play them in the Hampshire Snr Cup 3rd round, kick-off remember is 7.30pm. I really hope whatever team Martin Kuhl puts out for the game, that it puts in a better performance than it did last Tuesday in the league game.
