Pre-Season Friendly Chichester City 0-2 Basingstoke Town

Saturday 31st July 2021 – Oaklands Park, Chichester

Stoke rested one or two players for this pre-season friendly game, but still had a strike-force of Bradley Wilson, Connor Lynch and George Reid.

Stoke took control early on, but failed to take advantage of our first-half possession, whilst Julian Schwarzer was rarely under pressure in goal.

The second-half saw us take the lead after a goal-keeping error allowed Wilson to find Lynch who chipped the ball past the keeper into an open net.

Chichester who looked a pale comparision on last years FA Cup side, rarely troubled the Stoke back four, and Stoke attacked time and time again but failed to double the lead, until an unnecessary tackle inside the box on Conor Lynch gave us a penalty.

Conor picked himself up to take the penalty and sent the young Chichester keeper the wrong way.

A few minutes later Conor was rested, as we made a few changes as the game drew to a close.

Final Score: Chichester City 0 – 2 Basingstoke Town (Lynch 2)

The 25 to 30 Stoke fans present in a small crowd went home happy, looking forward to next weeks match-up against Isthmian Premier league side Leatherhead.
