Our last pre-season friendly saw us travel upto last season’s league opponents Binfield. Basingstoke had a large squad on hand, with a mix of current squad players and trialists all expected to play.
Stoke were on the front foot from the start and should have taken the lead in the first few minutes, but like other chances that fell their way, were either squandered or saved by the keeper.
Binfield sporting a partially new side due to club issues, also failed to take two chances, as the game went into the break goal-less.
Basingstoke made a number of halftime changes, and came out looking for the opening goal, but it was Binfield who somehow missed, what appeared an open goal, as a Binfield forward slammed the ball of the underside of the bar and post, and we were able to scramble the ball clear.
Stoke continued to push forward, but Binfield were able to keep us at bay, but then a neat passing move, allowed James Clark to break clear, and he rounded the Binfield keeper and tapped the ball home from close range.
Stoke continued to look the most likely to add to the scoring and with the game reaching ninety minutes, a lively Ashleigh Artwell found the net to double our lead.
A successful end to our pre-season, as the players get ready for league action
