With the temperatures just above freezing, it was Stoke who attacked the railway end and Stoke came close to opening the scoring in the third minute as Robbie Gallagher was released with the ball, then cut inside, looked to shoot, but went past two defenders, before chipping a shot that out wits the keeper, but bounces off the top of the bar and over for a goal-kick.

A minute later D’Andre Brown neatly sent over a low cross, but a Parkway defender was first to the ball and cleared.
The game continued with Stoke pushing forward, but creating very little, not helped by constant stoppages by the referee.

Half an hour in and both sides were struggling to trouble the keepers.

With seven minutes remaining in the first-half Liam Ferdinand slipped the ball through to Dre, but his shot come cross, flew past the face of the goal, and out for a throw-in on the far side.
Then with a couple of minutes remaining in the first-half, Brody Peart was down injured and was replaced by Nnamdi Nwachuku (45 mins).
The referee blew for halftime, on a game that could only improve in the second-half.

Halftime Score: Basingstoke Town 0 vs 0 Plymouth Parkway
The second-half started like the first, with Stoke having a little possession around Parkway’s penalty are, but this resulted in a shot by Nwachuku that flew wide of the goal.

Stoke made two further changes, as D’Andre Brown was replaced by Luis Le Paih, and Sam Deadfield by Ben Cook (62 mins).

The game was still struggling to get going, as both teams were struggling to put to three passes together.
Stoke then won a free-kick outside the penalty area, which Cook took, but it flew just out of reach of the Stoke forwards and rolled out for a goal-kick.

Plymouth with fifteen minutes to go, then started to push forward and they created a chance, but their forward sliced his shot, and it the right-hand post and flew away.

Nwachuku then neatly picked the ball up on the left wing, and went past two players inside the penalty area, but his shot was blocked.

Plymouth attacked again but the striker, who was clear as he entered our penalty area, chose to pass, rather than shoot and his pass passed the outstretched leg of a Plymouth player.

Jack Ball then directed header towards goal from a corner, but it was easily dealt with by the Parkway keeper.
We made our fourth change as Billy Upton was replaced by Scott Armsworth.

A minute later we lost the ball in midfield, and Plymouth broke and two passes later, a simple tap home from five yards out and we were a goal behind. Basingstoke 0-1 Plymouth.
Plymouth played out the five minutes of added-time with little concern, and Stoke went down to another home defeat to a team many places below them.

Match Thought’s
Well that was a pretty drab game, with very little goalmouth action and a competition of how high can I kick the ball in the air by both teams. This was not helped by an unbelievably petty referee, who seemed to take ages to restart the game every time it was stopped.
Not sure how we go from performances at Dorchester & Bracknell to this, but another late goal conceded once again.

We have a week before we host local rival Winchester City next Saturday 11th KO 3pm
