With a number of changes from Saturday’s line-up, the game got underway with Stoke attacking the car-park end, and we had two shots on target in the opening minutes, but neither really troubled the Chertsey keeper.

Chertsey then should have taken the lead on five minutes, as a forward smashed a shot against the crossbar, which rebounded to another forward, who muffed his shot putting it wide from an open goal from seven yards.

On fifteen minutes Robbie Gallagher won a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area on the right, which James Dickson took, and found Joe O’Loughlin at the far post, but his header, was easily picked out of the air by the Chertsey keeper.
Chertsey on eighteen minutes forced a diving save out of Simon Grant, as he pushed a dangerous shot out for a corner on the right.
Chertsey, just past the half-hour mark, came close once again to breaking the deadlock, as an inch perfect pass found the forward, who missed the earlier chance, but his shot this time, beat Grant in goal, but rebounded off the foot of the left-hand post and away.
Chertsey continued to push forward, but were not helped by a number of offside decisions.

Simon Grant then breathed a sigh of relief, as a shot from outside the penalty area, bobbled off the ground into Grant, and in slow motion flew over the crossbar for a corner.

Stoke pushed forward, and D’Andre Brown took the ball past a defender, but his shot was pushed away, but we were back on it, and the ball pinged around the penalty area, and fell to Bradley Wilson on the right, and his low shot found it’s way through the crowd of players and despite the keeper’s best efforts, it found the back of the net. GOAL! Basingstoke Town 1 – 0 Chertsey Town (Wilson 42 mins)

Chertsey pushed forward once more before the break, but the shot was poor and rolled harmlessly wide.
A minute of added-time was played and Stoke let’s just say went into the break with a fortunate lead.

Stoke attacked from the kick-off, and Gallagher won a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area, with the referee waving away calls for a penalty. Nothing came from the free-kick.

Stoke broke clear once again through Gallagher, who found Wilson, who took two touches before hitting a right-foot shot that the Chertsey keeper comfortably held.

Chertsey then won free-kick on the left, which somehow seemed to find it’s way past the wall and into the far bottom corner of the net. Basingstoke 1-1 Chertsey

An hour in Gallagher went on a weaving run past three defenders, and despite calls for a foul, the ball rolled to Brown, whose swerving shot was pushed out for a corner by the Chertsey keeper. However, the final tackle on Gallagher, had left him injured on the pitch, and he had to be replaced a minute later by George Reid (62 mins).

Chertsey who had been fairly quiet since their goal then broke forward, but the shot was deflected wide of the right-hand post.

We win a free-kick as we broke forward and a Chertsey player went in the book.
Chertsey had the next attack, but the shot was held down low by Grant in goal.

O’Loughlin then broke down the left followed by two Chertsey players, and a push on O’Loughlin, saw the referee award a free-kick, then show the Chertsey player, who had been booked minutes before, was shown a second-yellow card, and then the red card, and Chertsey were down to ten.

Stoke made it’s second change as D’Andre Brown was replaced by Ben Cook (81 mins).
Stoke were now looking for a winner, and we made our third change as James Clark replaced Bradley Wilson (87 mins).

Stoke pressed and calls for a penalty in the last minute of normal time were waived away, as we headed into six minutes of added-time.

Stoke then should have been ahead, as we broke down the right and a cross found Josh Green on his own, but his header from five yards, flew a foot wide.

What seemingly was a shot from Lysalla that hit a Chertsey defender, shocked the crowd, as the referee awarded us a penalty. After two minutes of delays, James Clark sent the Chertsey keeper the wrong way and we were ahead GOAL!! Basingstoke Town 2 – 1 Chertsey Town (Clark 95 mins Pen)

Stoke made another change as time was running out, as George Reid was replaced by Billy Upton (96 mins).

Chertsey had one final attack, but the cross was punched clear by Grant, and we broke into Chertsey’s half through Lysalla, and the final thirty seconds were played out and the referee blew the final whistle, and Stoke picked-up all three points.

Match Thought’s
After forty minutes of Chertsey fairly dominating the game, and with a fortunate amount of luck we took the lead, although Bradley Wilson’s goal, appears now to be noted as an own goal. The second-half saw a much better half from Stoke, and the midfield trio of James Dickson, Josh Green & D’Andre Brown were superb. Happy for us to be awarded a fortunate penalty decision, and the reliable James Clark buried the kick. We move upto fourteenth in the table, and hopefully a push up the table.
