Our game against League new boys Malvern Town, got underway with Stoke attacking the car-park end, but it was the visitors who had the first chance, as from a corner in the fourth minute a shot from on the edge of the penalty area, was blocked away.

Stoke created their first chance in the eleventh minute, but Jeremiah Okine-Peters, snatched at the chance, hitting it wide from close range.

The visitors continued to have the better of the play, but two vital blocks, and a dragged shot wide of the right-hand post kept the score goal-less.
Stoke were fortunate to remain level as we hit the half-hour, as another chance was wasted by a Malvern striker, who again pushed his shot wide of the right-hand post.

Stoke’s next chance came in the 34th minute as James Henry’ shot was pushed over the bar and out for a corner.
More Malvern play was broken up by a quick break, which allowed Cheick Sylla to take the ball into the penalty area, but his shot was pushed out for a corner.

Despite all the Malvern play, it was Stoke who grabbed the lead just before the break, as a scramble inside Malvern’s goalmouth, appeared to see Sylla knock the ball into the net. GOAL! Basingstoke Town 1 – 0 Malvern Town (Sylla 45 mins)
Thirty seconds after the restart, the referee blew the halftime whistle, and Stoke have a first-half lead!

Stoke made three changes at halftime, as Amardeep Singh was replaced by Scott Armsworth, Joe O’Loughlin was replaced by the welcomed return of Jack Ball, and Cheick Sylla was replaced by Larry Omoregie.

With the second-half underway, Stoke had a chance to double the lead, but Okine-Peters who beat his marker, lost control of the ball as he advanced towards the penalty area.

A neat one-two passing move, then saw Stoke double their lead, if fortunately, as Armsworth cross looked to be curling out of play, only for it to outwit the Malvern keeper, as the ball flies in off the far post. GOAL!! Basingstoke Town 2 – 0 Malvern Town (Armsworth 53 mins)

Stoke’ second goal had clearly knocked Malvern, as Stoke could have added a third from a corner, but Armsworth’s header bounced off the crossbar, and Billy Upton’s follow-up rolled wide.
Stoke had further attacks over the next few minutes, including loan-signing Chinedu Agu, who broke into area, but clipped his shot off the advancing Malvern keeper, and the rebound was cleared by a Malvern defender.

Malvern’s first attack of the half, came as they broke from our attack, and a shot from the left-hand side of the penalty area, beat Simon Grant in goal, only for it to smash against the post and roll clear.

There was a lull in goalmouth action, for a few minutes, which was then broken by a claim for a Malvern penalty, which the referee waived away, only for another attack a minute later, which allowed a Malvern player to find space, and then smash the ball past Grant and into the net. Basingstoke Town 2-1 Malvern Town

Stoke pushed for a third goal, and this finally came from a neat passing move, as Larry Omoregie, slid the ball to Okine-Peters, who tapped home from close range GOAL!!! Basingstoke Town 3 – 1 Malvern Town (Okine-Peters 83 mins)

A minute later Stoke made it’s final two changes, as Chinedu Agu was replaced by Christos Papkonstantinou, and Jeremiah Okine-Peters was replaced by Anthony Manochhio (84 mins).
That third goal had taken all the fight out of Malvern and Upton came close to adding a fourth goal, as from a corner, he turned and hit a shot against the post with the keeper motionless.

A fourth goal for Stoke was to arrive in the 95th minute, as Blake’s shot rebounded off the keeper to Christos who slotted the ball into the back of the net, and whilst the Stoke players celebrated the referee blew the fulltime whistle GOAL!!!! Basingstoke Town 4 – 1 Malvern Town (Christos Papkonstantinou 95 mins)

Match Thought’s
If Malvern had taken one of their first-half chances, this could have been a completely different result, but Stoke for once took it’s chance in the first-half, and never looked back from there, as a second-half performance was worthy of all three points, even if it was a fortunate second goal, that doubled our lead.
Back to winning ways as the three points moves us up to fourteenth, and will give us a boost with a big midweek game coming up.
