After a brief attack by the homeside, as a header went wide from a corner, it was Stoke pushing forward down the left, using Joe O’Loughlin & Jeremiah Okine-Peters, with two half-chances fell to Cheick Sylla, as a header fell comfortably to the keeper, followed a minute later by a shot from an acute angle, that was blocked out for a corner.

Stoke continued on top, winning a number of corners, which were defended by Havant, this was followed by a nice move by Okine-Peters, as he cut inside, but his shot although well hit, was straight at the keeper.

However, all this possession, was to count for nothing, as Havant broke from another Stoke attack, and their goal-scoring machine, Ryan Seager, broke away from his marker, and then gave Simon Grant no chance, as he slotted the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. Havant & Waterlooville 1-0 Basingstoke Town

Stoke continued to attack, and should have levelled, as Okine-Peters forced the keeper to push the ball to Amardeep Singh, whose shot failed to find the net.

Still the better team, Havant then came close to doubling their lead, and a shot was cleared close to the line by Billy Upton.
Stoke had two more shots, but both were easily held by the keeper.
As we entered added-time, Havant were awarded a penalty, as a challenge from Simon Grant was deemed to be a foul, and a minute later Seager had his second, and Havant led two-nil.
A minute later, despite all our good play, we go into the break behind.

Halftime Score: Havant & Waterlooville 2 vs 0 Basingstoke Town
The game got back underway, with no changes by Stoke, and it was Havant who pushed forward over the opening minutes, which Grant made a good save.

Stoke had done little this half, but then won a corner on the left . The kick to the far post found Scott Armsworth, two yards out, failed to make the right connection, but then swivelled and hooked the ball into the net. GOAL! Havant & Waterlooville 2 – 1 Basingstoke Town (Armsworth 58 mins)

Stoke were to make a double change with Amardeep Singh being replaced by Alex Solomon, and Cheick Sylla being replaced by Larry Omoregie (59 mins).

Hope of a revival, were soon extinguished, as two minutes later, an error at by Upton, gifted Havant a third goal, as Seager smashed the ball past Grant, who had little chance. Havant & Waterlooville 3-1 Basingstoke Town
This spurred the home side on and Havant started to press for a fourth, as shots either slid past the post, or our defence made good blocking tackles to keep them out.

Stoke were to make its three final changes on 74 minutes, as Scott Armsworth was replaced by Anthony Manocchio, Joe O’Loughlin replaced by Christos Papkonstantinou, and Lewis Colwill was replaced by James Henry.

Havant were still the team on top, and somehow they did not get there fourth, when from a volley from outside the box, was palmed away by Grant in goal, and then the ball pinged from one side of the penalty area to the other, before the final shot flew over the bar.

Stoke’s forwards created two half moments, but after setting up shooting opportunities, both shots flew well wide of the right-hand post.
Havant’s fourth did finally arrive with ten minutes remaining, as another Havant forward not named Seager, had stime and space, to leave Grant little chance, as he found the bottom of the net. Havant & Waterlooville 4-1 Basingstoke Town

The last few minutes of the game, saw Stoke in Havant’s penalty area, but were unable to trouble their keeper, and we played out four minutes of added-time, before blowing the final whistle, as Stoke went down to defeat.

Match Thoughts
For the small Stoke faithful present at the game, we saw a Stoke side clearly the better for most of the half, with our forward play quick and skilful, but again without the end product needed. Havant took both their chances, and were the better team in the second-half, and despite hope of us getting back level, Havant could have had more than the four goals they got, and again Ryan Seager was a class above everyone else.
We remain in fourteenth in the table, as we head for another tough game Saturday.
Next:
With our proposed league game at Berkhamsted postponed, we now travel to Gosport Borough, in a rearranged fixture on Saturday.
