With the early afternoon rain disappeared and the Stoke players finally arrived, the game got underway at 4.09pm, but there was to note until the tenth minute, when Ben Cook won a free-kick about thirty yards out, which was redistributed to Ore Bello, who cut inside the penalty area and hit a left-foot shot, but it was unfortunately straight at the keeper who made the save.
Stoke were to be the architects of their own downfall six minutes later, as we dwelt on the ball too long, as a Plymouth dispossessed the Stoke player and sent the ball up the right wing, to where a Plymouth player pulled the ball back across the six yard line, which allowed another Plymouth player to run onto the ball and slot the ball past Simon Grant in goal. Plymouth Parkway 1-0 Basingstoke Town
The game continued at a slow pace, and just before the half-hour mark, Stoke were to present Plymouth with another chance, as from our throw-in we threw it straight to a Plymouth forward who cut inside along the penalty area and curled a shot past Grant, and into the far corner. Plymouth Parkway 2-0 Basingstoke Town
Stoke’s next attack was five minutes later, but Joe Grant’s shot lacked power and was sweeped up by the keeper.
Plymouth had a little more play, but Stoke came close as a Tom Blake shot forced the Parkway keeper to tip the ball over for a corner, which was wasted thirty seconds later.
Very little else to note, as we went into the break, with a lot to do in the second-half.
Halftime Score: Plymouth Parkway 2 vs 0 Basingstoke Town
Stoke made a change at half time, as Ore Bello was replaced by Alex Kokoszka.
The second-half got underway, and although we looked more energetic in the opening few minutes, we failed to trouble their keeper as we hit the hour-mark.
Stoke did then win a free-kick on the right, which saw Billy Upton rise above his marker but could only direct his header wide of the goal.
Stoke made its second change as George Reid replaced Josh Green (61 mins).
Still very little goalmouth action by either side, with under twenty minutes remaining.
Stoke made their third change as Joe Grant was replaced by James Clark (74 mins).
Plymouth were to put the game to bed, as another attack saw them find the net once more. Plymouth Parkway 3 – 0 Basingstoke Town
Stoke made its fourth change as Elliott Legg replaced Joe O’Loughlin (79 mins).
Still very little sign of us grabbing a goal, and we made our final change as Scott Armsworth replaced Ben Cook (83 mins).
Stoke did hit the woodwork with five minutes to go, as Blake’s free-kick skimmed off the outside of the right-hand post.
We played five minutes of added-time, and Legg cleared the ball of the line to keep it at three, and the final whistle went a minute later, before we went down to defeat on the road.
Fulltime Score: Plymouth Parkway 3 vs 0 Basingstoke Town

Match Thoughts
This was never going to end well, after the late arrival of the player’s coach and a less than usual length warm-up, put us behind the curve from the start. However, Plymouth’s first two goals, were down to our own errors.
Their keeper had one of the quietest games he will have had for some time, and now puts pressure on us to get something against an inform Sholing, deep in the playoff battle race.
Up Next:
We are back home at Winklebury, on Bank Holiday Monday, as we host a Sholing side, KO 3pm.
