Uxbridge attack from the start, and Simon Grant makes a good save, but a minute later, Uxbridge had the ball in the net and were behind early. Uxbridge 1-0 Basingstoke

Stoke had created very little, and Uxbridge came close once again from a corner, which we were able to clear on the third attempt.
We had a little possession and created our first shot, as our new-signing Cheick Sylla, turned on the ball and hit a shot that lacked power, and was saved by the Uxbridge keeper.

Uxbridge had the next chance, as a cross was initially cleared by Billy Upton, and the second cross flew past the face of the goal and out for a goal-kick.

Stoke were winning more possession in Uxbridge’s half, and it was Lysalla, who had the next chance, as Liam Ferdinand found Lysalla who slid the ball to our other new signing Remy Bennison, who chipped the ball into the penalty area, where Lysalla directed his header to the goal, but was easily held by the keeper.

Now inside the final ten of the half, Uxbridge forced a good save out of Grant down low.
Stoke still pushed forward, but Uxbridge were holding us fairly easily, and we then won a free-kick about thirty yards out on the left. The kick taken by James Dickson found Scott Armsworth, who powerfully directed his head into the bottom right-hand corner of the net GOAL! Uxbridge 1- 1 Basingstoke Town (Armsworth 44 mins)

The half ended with Uxbridge having one more attack, but the attempt flew past the post and the referee blew the halftime whistle, with Stoke back level.

Halftime Score: Uxbridge 1 – 1 Basingstoke Town
The second-half got underway, and Uxbridge repeated their first half early, goal as an Uxbridge player was found with space in the penalty area, and he slotted home past Grant who had little chance. Uxbridge 2-1 Basingstoke

Stoke came inches from levelling two minutes later, as a cross rebounded off an Uxbridge player and rolled past the post for a corner.
Stoke had the next attack of note, as the ball was fed to Bennison on the right, whose cross was knocked out to Josh Green, whose shot from the edge of the penalty area was deflected out for a Stoke corner.

Grant then made another fine save, as Uxbridge broke from our attack, and ex-Stokie Nwachuku’s shot was pushed out for a corner.
A minute later from another corner, Grant was again to Stoke’s rescue, making another save down low.

Stoke came close to levelling just past the hour-mark, but their keeper was able to parry the shot and with no Stoke player near it, an Uxbridge player was able to clear the ball away from the goal-line.

It was time for Stoke’s first change as George Reid replaced Remy Bennison (68 mins).

With very little goalmouth action over the next few minutes, Stoke made two more changes as Ben Cook replaced James Dickson, and Connor Barratt replaced Josh Green (72 mins).

Very little to note of the next few minutes, and with the travelling Stoke fans unhappy with some of the refereeing decisions, Stoke made their final two changes, as James Clark replaced Scott Armsworth, and D’Andre Brown replaced Liam Ferdinand (82 mins).

Uxbridge had another chance but fortunately the shot flew high and wide of the Stoke goal.

Stoke still had hope of an equaliser when Wilson’s cross was blocked out to Barratt, but his shot was deflected out for a corner.

In the final minute of normal time, another cross had Upton in the right position to head the ball, but he appeared to leave it.
In added-time, another Stoke chance came, but the shot flew over the bar.

Uxbridge were able to play out the remaining few minutes of added-time and we went down to defeat.

Match Thought’s
Another game where the scoreline favoured us as Simon Grant made a number of key saves throughout the game. Stoke’s two new additions to the club, played well and hopefully will make an impact going forward, as our strikeforce needs a major boost.
We slip to 17th in the league, with our goal-difference keeping us out of the relegation zone.
Big game against Chertsey Tuesday, who sit five points and six places above us in the table.
Up Next:
With a quick turnaround we host Chertsey Town this Tuesday (14th) 7.45pm
